    Jenny's 325iX

Jenny started bugging me last month about wanting a 'cooler' car than her 325e, considering I have a 325i and 325iC that are both a bit nicer. After competing with 24 people who called and 16 people who test drove the car, we were able to purchase this. Between Jenny and I we now own an '89 325i, '89 325iC, '88 325iX, and a '97 540i6.

It's a 1988 325iX 5-speed coupe with 110,000 miles and we bought it from the original owner. I've never seen an E30 as loaded as this: heated seats, maplight mirror, 13 button OBC, etc. It's in good overall condition and runs like a dream. As you can see in the pics it came with studded tires mounted on plain steel wheels, but they also included the basketweaves with summer tires. They removed the front lip when they went up to the mountain, but it's in the trunk in great condition. The leather is decent aside from the driver seat bolster, just needs to be cleaned and reconditioned. Overall, Jenny is ecstatic. She says she likes this car better than her old Del Sol, so maybe now she'll quit talking about it :D

It does have a couple issues, such as needing an alignment, new rear shocks, and a couple leaks fixed. First thing I'm going to do is hit it with the Porter Cable and some Optimum products. I have a feeling this paint is going to look amazing. Here are some pics right now, as we received it. I'll be sure to update this thread periodically.

that engine bay could use a good cleaning, but it looks pretty good otherwise. that single stage paint will polish right up..

one thing you will want to do right away is check the fluid level in the transfer case, and check the front driveshaft spline for lubrication. both will last a long time with proper maintenance, but if there's a leak in the TC it could mean bad news. my parts car had 220k on the original drivetrain though and it was all in perfect shape.. it's in my car right now, actually. :)

I agree on leaving it stock. maybe plastic bumpers for looks (I hate diving boards, no matter what anyone says).. but honestly it's your girlfriends car, she doesn't need it to be lowered with stiff suspension. and the ride height is perfect for bad weather.

              Thanks for the comments guys.

jhower08 - It's actually a CB/Police Scanner of some sort. It turns on, and seems to work, but I'm not sure how to use it. I'll be investigating soon :)

nando - Thanks for the tips, I definitely need to know as much as possible as soon as possible, since this is the first iX I've worked on. It's her car but I'll be doing all the maintenance. It'll be mostly stock, like you guys recommended. We might swap to plastic bumpers and find another set of rims but I can't see Jenny wanting to mod it too much aside from that.
