He eventually showed me enough sources and data to convince me that the for the full swap (Ls1 into an FD) that it actually comes out at a slight weight savings(an sr20 with turbos and plumbing is also going to be heavier than the LS1 btw). I don't have the sources he gave me from that discussion, nor do I have any information on the S14 but but id expect it to be pretty close to the rotary if not lighter.
New LS1 Owners - Newbie Tech - ls1 weight - anybody knows how much an ls1 engine weights with the intake and the water pump on, with no oil in it.????
when my buddy went to va and originally picked up my 13b keg he picked it up by himself and set it in the front seat of his prelude for the ride home.
Can you do that with an ls1?I don't think your mom appreciates the value of those modifications

Removed steering wheel, cluster, ECU. Tomorrow..the dash and then I can begin pouring through wiring schematics. This work is slow and tedious I've never done something like this before and I've owned an e30 for all of 2 months or so.
Making good progress so far though :)I don't think your mom appreciates the value of those modifications

Well the keg you picked up doesnt include the IC, turbos, and possibly intake mani, or any of the vacuum shit. a 13b out of an fd with all of the turbos and vacuum and emissions shit isnt as light as you would think. i know what you mean but the housings being light even all together, but taking into account all the shit that must go on it, then when comparing it to an ls1 with all the shit that would go on it, its not as big of a difference.

well, emissions doesn't exactly HAVE to go on it. and as a matter of fact (and as previously stated) it's not. I live in NC, not CA. :) Also as I'm going NON sequential the rats nest of vacuum wires doesnt either. Please READ. As stated previously a full 13brew with accessories comes in at around 325 lbs, vs ls1 at around 400. so thats at least 75 lbs lighter before the removal of emissions and such?I don't think your mom appreciates the value of those modifications
