If you weren't a registered member, who watched Matt's original tear down and build thread of his 2.8L.... long before he turbo'd the car, and don't ever recall seeing his Dyno run of the motor without a turbo.... you have no place responding to this thread and slamming Matt's product choices.

    Good Luck Matt.

Mechanics,Profesinals, and then there is you.

All have to say is it is very easy to point the finger at others before yourself, reason is we at IE give alot of sugestions alot!!!! to people and they go againest it all at time, also we place orders as instructed by customer so if you call us and say I want ex. rear subframe mounts z3,ti,m coupe for an E30 we're under the assumption that you should know better and you are doing something custom? who knows. See our problem is we walk people by the hand to much. I fully understand if something was are fault we should fix it,BUT! not if we ordered something a customer asked for. I am goint to look into this claim and see what is excactly this issue here now if I come to the conclusion that IE isn't at fault I will then get back on here and let everyone know how things turned out to be reason is I think when people get on this forums and just rip on all these shops sucks specially when they don't even know for certain what the issue really is. Nevertheless, I am sorry for what happened and hope you come to your conclusion soon one other thing our pistons aren't made in "CHINA" they are Ross pistons or Maxil please get your homework down before typing have a great night.

      Best Regards

bummer matt! it really didn't sound like it was running quite right. I'd bet on piston/valve clearance. Your engine was making a loud clacking noise, I just assumed the valves needed finer adjusting.

as far as IE - Ross pistons aren't exactly known as being top shelf. low sillcone content and poor tolerances equal lots of blowby and oil burning. Ross pistons require 3-4 times the piston to wall clearance of a comparable wiseco piston (for example), 5-6 times the clearance of a stock piston, and they aren't even significanly cheaper. that equals more piston slap, more bore wear, more oil burning, higher temperatures and a shorter life.

it's nice that you can get them custom spec'd, but you can get custom pistons anywhere. I had cash in hand to buy an IE stroker kit several years ago, but their incompetence and unwillingness to sell me anything ended up pushing me to the open arms of Jim at Metric Mechanic instead. 25,000+ miles, 7100rpm and many, many autox's (and one track day) later, it's been my daily driver and runs perfectly and reliably all the time. It's a decision I've never regretted; thank you IE for making it for me!

IE does sell some nice stuff, but seriously, a lot of it is low quality and high priced (i've bought lots of stuff there in the past). I don't know that IE is to blame here of course (he hasn't even taken it apart yet!), but I wouldn't personally reccomend their stroker kits to anyone.

                          FAIL.

Hopping on r3v to be an illiterate hardass making fun of the kiddies does nothing good for you. The only people really looking for IE shit are those kiddies who wouldn't prefer to pay a little more for ensured quality from a trusted retailer. I have nothing but confidence in James Clay or Will Turner's crew or the products they sell.

There's plenty of members growing older and in their careers with primary cars and then E30s as fun or racecars, and such behavior of yours is truly disastrous for relationships with customers like that - not that they were looking for the junk pawned off though anyway.

If it is someone from IE, I hope he realizes the impact he can cause to his company by badmouthing his already pissed off clientele.
Ive watched a handful of companys meet IE's inevitable fate, by doing just this.
