oops....look what i did yesterday on highway 1....

hey, i havent posted here in awhile but i totaled my car and i thought you guys might want to see the pics. i was cruising on highway one yesterday up by point reys.....(for those of who dont know where highway one is, its the coastile highway in california, VERY FUN ROAD...) anways i was enterering a left hand turn and it was on a steep downgrade......to make a long story short i made a minor driver miscalculation on the turn and ended up puting my car into the dirt side bank at roughly 50mph. here are the pics.

....at first all i thought i did was break the fender and some various trim pieces. then i noticed this. i geuss the impact was so hard that i torqued my roof. it looks like it bent upwards and was forced back, causing it to crinckle.

....i bent my control arm, i broke my right sway bar mount, and i broke my upper right shock mount. i had to do a little roadside repair because both front wheels where bowed out and i had to realign them so i could drive it home.

i dont know if you can notice how badly the wheel is pushed back, i ended up driving it 120 mile home. i still cant belive i made it. whenever i would hit the brakes my wheel woyuld rub so i ended up useing the e-brake. i also could not turn right more than like 5 degrees. mostly all freeway miles so it went fine.

Sorry to hear about that, sucks man. Good thing you're alright though, that's all that matters.

I was out on that road the begining of this summer, I was riding in my dad's rental Dodge van and kept thinking how much I wished I had the e30 with me :D
      That sucks though,

Hwy 1 going thru Marin and Sonoma is an amazing stretch of road. Wish I could get out there more often.

Sucks to see what happend to your car. From the looks of the flexing at the sunroof I would render this car totaled.....everything has shifted a bit. If you plan to replace it with another E30 this wrecked car can serve as a good parts source if you buy something that needs a little work.

Best of luck sorting things out. Glad to hear you're ok :D

you're lucky the road has dirt on the sides.. chuckanut drive, which is the most "fun" road around here, has a rock wall on one side and a several hundred foot drop off on the other that goes into the ocean. no room for error there! :)

you could probably fix whatever is wrong with the front passenger wheel (probably bent control arm, strut, etc) and use it as a daily beater that you'd never have to wash. :)

Sorry to see you errors, but you walked away and no one is hurt a ver big plus.

Except your pride and car. She did what she was supposed to flex and crush in the right places to save the occupant. Part it and keep parts for the next one.

Keep your head high everyone makes bad judgement calls from time to time.

If the roof buckled, the car has frame damage.

and? I didn't say turn it into a show car, did I? it could still make it to school/work and back every day with a new control arm (which is obviously bent in the picture). :P

i found another 318i for sale thats 40 miles from my house. i think im gonna buy it and swap the engine and interior. i just rebuilt my engine and did a valve job. and i have about 5 grand invested in it. im still really pissed though because it was my baby and ive owned it for 4 years and it jst kills me to see it the way it is.
i love e30's so i will definetly get another, preferably another 318i (1984, or '85) since i could use my totaled one for parts. but im ok so i geuss that's all that matters. (im so pissed at myself right now)

How did you get up to 50mph on Highway 1? When I drove it a few years ago, I swear I only shifted into 3rd about three times.

There are some parts of hwy 1 that are pretty straight, but I really only takea stretch near Santa Cruz, I'm not sure what its like farther north.

I am glad you are fine from the wreck, but the car didn't look like a big loss anyways so if insurance cuts you a nice check this might be a blessing in diguise
