      The Unclappening - Episode 4

Over two weekends, this next installment of the unclappening series has the following parts fitted:
      • Koni STR.T Orange dampers.
      • Thicker (318i?) front upper spring pads
      • New lower front spring pads
      • New front Tophats
      • New front brake hoses
      • New rear lower control arm bolts

Ordered these Konis back in December, and they finally came in this month.
Installed with new bits, these should hopefully make the ride nicer then the old Bilstein B8s that were in there before.
Added a slight bit of front ride height with thicker upper spring pads. Wasn't totally sure on the part numbers here when ordering things, so I ended up with a few extras that I'll use on another car.

While I had the car apart, I replaced the front brake hoses. The old ones were so bad that there were parts of the outer jacket completely split open.
Driver's side hard line was ROUGH as well, had to cut it back and reflare with a new fitting.
Passenger side I got lucky and a week's worth of Seafoam Deep Creep and some vice grips got the old hose disconnected without remaking anything.
Powerbleeder made quick work of getting the air out of the system. Had to use vicegrips on two of the brake bleeders, which were cleaned up and then reinstalled with anti-sieze.

Car could probably use a full brake job at this point. But the rotors did clean up well enough with some hard stops, and I was able to threshold brake almost to the point of lockup, so performance is still acceptable.

Finally fixed the clunking in the rear suspension too. I replaced the pieces of threaded rod that the previous owner had in the lower rear control arms with the proper OEM bolts and nuts.

While I was under the car, I noticed the vacuum reference to the FPR came unhooked. Should help the fueling (with less fuel pressure) now that this is reconnected.

I've always liked this pic. Clean enough to have a little class, but beater enough to ask if a 17yo Edgar has a payment on it. Something about tidy beaters are so enjoyable, like the OG variant of Roadkill's 68 Charger before they did the Hellcat swap.

Absolutely, the multicolour had a vibe for sure! At least it still lives on in the project name.

I like this shot too. Shame that I didn't have the rear wheel fitment sorted yet here:
