are you still supposed to wet it down while applying it? I *still* have a roll of that stuff left from a set of headers I did in 1997.. lol

looks good, wish they had it in black back then. you had to paint it. :(

would a ceramic coating be as effective?

This stuff you weren't supposed to wet. But yes, some stuff you still do.

A ceramic coating is probably MORE effective, to be honest, but I want to coat my manifold too. However, before I pay exorbitant amounts of money to do this, I want to be sure that no cracks/issues develop, so for a good chunk of year one, I will use the wrap, then get it coated and re-wrap.

makes sense. coating for a set of headers here is about $180.. waiting for my v-bands to be welded on, and then sending them in. Pretty excited to have non-shitty headers for once. :p

What kind of coating. There are a LOT of different coatings and some of them really suck...

I love this build! I was actually watching it before I even registered to the site. Are you working in industry or private/motorsports?

I'm an engineer for a mining company, I just wrench in my garage in my spare time.

I'd like to add that I'm in love w/ a girl that lives outside Providence, RI.
              Just sayin.

I am PRETTY sure that is (or is very similar to) what I had on my 240sx (satin black). It got all rusty after about a month. I was pretty bummed out. (side note, check out that brake booster placement... that was an RHD CONVERSION, lol... I'm a ricer)

                  Before:

After (don't hate on my manifold too much, it was my first one ever...):

Just read this thread from beginning to end. I remember I gave you shit for your first attempt. I now have my hat in hand sir (and foot in mouth; it's easy to get in there due to my jaw dropping to the floor).

                    You are a badass.

                      :) thanks.

This thread kinda starts in the middle of the build... did any of you guys check out the older stuff on the onyxsyndicate site?

Do NOT do this! We did it on a gtr a mate owned ad another subaru I worked on and the coating failed and it cracked the welds within 6 months. Wrap the pipe OR coat it, don't do both.

Yep, looked through that soon as I saw the link. Good stuff - nice documentation. That's a lot of extra work to do while doing a project!
