bummer that his got destroyed, good to know they are safe though. I was a bit curious about that. I was never a huge fan of E21's, but always liked them, came across my first one (the one in my signature) for free. I liked how it was small and "right wheel drive", then I came across the one I have now which is better, and scrapped the first one. Wasn't too partial to E21's until I took the coils out of the one I don't have anymore, then I lowered my current one, I will always love E21's from now on as a result.

so after realizing that it's going to cost over $400 to properly re-build my non-seized m10, I decided that wasn't worth it. I am set on buying my friend's 12A rotary and trans and some other necessary odds and ends for $250

any thoughts? apparently E21's are 100 pounds lighter than 1st gen RX7's and mine will be even lighter with a rotary. sure it won't have a ton of power, but it's looking like the cheapest way to get my car running.

        oh schnaap!

any one want to buy all my M10 stuff?

        almost ready for a rotary!

I think I'm also going to raise my steering rack so the angle of the tie rods isn't so extreme at ride height while there is no engine in the car, I'll probably soon modify the sub frame for control arm clearance as well.

          Big, and vague update:

unibody reinforcement plating and engine mounts:

RX7 radiator mounted with stock E21 air box mounting hardware off the old parts car and this one:

in line fuel pump, battery switch and battery cable routing, start button in de-frost button location, and clutch line with custom made ends (not in that order exactly)

the drive line I had to make, the drive line shops around here just couldn't do it, so I had to do it technically incorrectly.

I also kind of got it running:

the next day I got it to run much better, but then the carb was flooding out, a sign it had to be rebuilt. I didn't realize that, so I got an in line fuel pressure regulator and guage, then I couldn't get enough fuel in the carb, so after messing with that for a while, I researched and learned that I should rebuild the carb, so I'm gonig to do that soon.

so, I have rebuilt carb and all that, had to fix a minor mistake with the carb that made it run like shit, and now it's alive and well with rotary power. the 12A feels perfect in this car. I don't know what the hell BMW was thinking when they put that freaking 4 cylinder made out of lead in this thing. E21+rotary=fun

I'll take more pics and update this thread more in the near future.

I think this winter I'm going to probably end up street porting my 12A and doing a rebuild, that should make it put out a great deal of extra ponies.

do it, they are so light, they run so smooth, and they are just all around amazing. my 12A probably needs a rebuild, but it is still quite impressive, especially since it's a junk yard engine.

I'm really liking the way this is going. I also really like the "budget" look of the car. no glossy paint or any flashy things, it looks like a project that wants to be driven.

thanks dudes, it is a blast to drive, and it is strictly a budget project. trying to do everything as cheaply as possible while still making it very functional and dependable. There seems to be and art to that.

anyways, I burned up about a half tank today, drove it all over. forwards, backwards, and sideways.

the car is also super light, the scale read 2350 with slightly less than half a tank of gas. those are only accurate to 50, so even with a full tank of gas, it may have read that.

on another note, I'm going to probably end up raising the back up a bit, it does rake forward on flat, level pavement, but it often doesn't appear to have a forward rake, so I'm going to lift the back ever so slightly to get the stance a bit more mean looking.

Love e21's man, wish more people would do badass stuff like that with them. Keep it up :)

Oh, and there's a white 320is in a yard near me with almost no rust, if you are interested in anything off of it. seats, wheels, steering wheel, and front valence are already sold though.
