Strict budget, slow restoration. *Now with moar budget*
Oh sweet. Maybe a bit less power than an S50 then? Yeah it's possible you'll be okay but I'd venture to guess with your level of driving you will need a massive kit.
Should be about the same as a stock s50 US. Most recent dyno visit yielded 217wtq/210whp. I'm kind of leaning that way too. Have to start looking around.
The action shots of the wheee30 look great  especially the one filling the 997's mirrors.
Thanks dude! That picture just pisses me off though, that douche ruined some otherwise clean laps for me, lol.
So this thread has obviously slowed down considerably in the past year or two, partially because I've been taking a different focus on life, and with cars. I've been focusing more on developing as a driver than I have been on doing curbside motor swaps. I've got the car to where it's pretty fun and reliable and I've been spending my money on seat time and consumables instead of cool guy parts to put on the car.
That said, I definitely haven't forgotten my roots or this thread so while it's changing a bit in focus, here's an update from the last event.
Something seems to be digging its own water channel into the front tires a bit when I track, so I did a little "clearancing" before the event. Hopefully none of that metal was too important.
The view on the drive down to Laguna Seca
And as soon as I got there...
Oh well, rainy slidey track day! Then it dried up after awhile and was super pretty for some actual fast laps. I tore up point-by with a few autox friends in WRXs who had way more power.
I managed a few 1:47s that would have been 1:46s without traffic. The car's got a 1:45 in it. Not too bad considering the spec e30 lap record is a 1:47.4-I've got more power and better suspension but less tire and full interior plus just leave the sub box, spare and amp in.
And here's some chase footage from a friend's WRX (start at 2:50). Super pretty out that day.
Unfortunately two of my friends had incidents on this day. So, after wringing its neck in the wet and the dry, whee30 dutifully carried me plus 3 good size passengers all the way back home from the track in what's now known as "the uber ride of despair." I really love this little car and days like these are why I don't want to strip it and put a roll bar in it.
No fat chix
I will go back sometime soon(ish) and chase that 1:45. It's close, I can smell it!
Nice. Didn't have time to watch it all, but at 6:50 looks like you let up on the clutch a bit too fast without matching revs? Am I seeing that right? That back end really wanted to come around on you on that downshift.
LS looks so much nicer in the winter months when it's somewhat green.

Yeah it's a long video, the last half is just me playing with a few friends who came out.
Okay, ready for a long winded opinion? There are a few things that contributed to that:
1. I've set the car up to be loose on braking (more aggressive pads in the rear than the front)
2. I like trail braking super deep into that corner (also see corner 10, the 90 degree banked right hander).
3. The car's geared such that I've gotta turn in right after I downshift. I heel-toe religiously and you can hear me blip the throttle but with very little weight on the rear tires and most of their friction circle used up already it's very sensitive to imperfect downshifts--definitely possible that's what happened.
Luckily though it didn't slow me down too much as that was my fastest lap of the day. I was always pretty loose entering that corner and you can see me leaving marks at about 3:47 into my friend's video ;D
Cool video, I really like how you have the car setup. I'm guessing you are running a decent amount of rake? I love how well it rotates on entry, minimizing steering input mid-corner. Nice driving
Thanks dude, I like the setup as well but I'd still like to play around with it as I feel it could be more aggressive. This event I ran 3 degrees of camber, zero toe instead of 3.5 and 1/4" toe out in case it started raining again, and I don't have a pyrometer so I'm not sure which one is more optimal (3.5 seems to be the number people toss around with r-comps though). The rear is at about 2.2 degrees of camber I think.
Good call. The car's setup with a little actual rake and a little "virtual" rake. I've got riser bushings in the rear so the geometry is as if the rear was about .5" higher than it is. That plus more aggressive rear pads (PFC08 in front, PFC11 in rear) and a lot of trail braking means if you nail it just right you can be at neutral steer entering the corner until a little after you roll off the brakes.
I like loose cars significantly more than pushy cars, though that doesn't necessarily carry over to my taste in women.
Jeeeeeezzzz I just hardcore procrastinated on my gov essay reading all 59 pages of goodness. Super inspiring man, I am in a very similar position you started out in haha. Makes me excited for the future of my car! Hope it will be even half as bad ass of a story you have had so far.

Thanks! Where there's a will there's a way. Make it happen dude.
Took some time off driving events, and now I'm starting up again.
Here's yet another video. Watch me chase down some spec E30s, a Porsche, a Z06 and spec Miatas.
