alright earlier tonight i went outside grabbed my box o tools and started tearing these throttle bodies apart and my roommate took some pics for me.
unfortunately he went to bed before they got done but with the exception of som vaccume the whole thing is done all of the linkages were a snap the only hard part was physically separating them from one another
in case anyone wants to know that big peice of stainless is schedule 40 stainless it wwill be my plenum (i should begin work on the plenum friday morning and hopefully i will finish that on friday but i work slow so who knows)
so i got some new pics of the assembled throttlebodies and my roommate took some time and cleaned up my hackjob on my intake manifold he also went and bead blasted the whole thing so it's all shiny and smooth and most importantly dust/oil free
i also went to ace hardware and purchased 3 threaded rods that hold the whole assembly together. i also got some vaccume hose so that everything is as it should be. i have to buy some silicone hose, fabricate my plenum and vaccume log and then figure out how to mount the throttle cable and throttle position sensor. hopefully i will have this thing on the car in a few days but who knows i work slow and monney is kinda tight right now (rent is due and a client is unable to pay me for a guibo install until next weekend)
Please, if you dropped out of school just tell us, then your posts will be somewhat bearable. If you do have a high school education, or equivalent, apply some mother fucking grammar to your retarded posts. I'm sorry for the aggression in my first post in this thread, but there were several points I wanted to either cry because of the stupidity, or laugh because of the intense retardation. I guess this is really in true r3v fashion. Also, like it was said, this is an e30 forum, for the 3-series BMW made in the 80's and early 90's... Just because you have an m20, does not mean it belongs here... Perhaps if it were an interesting build, I would not mention this, but since it's a shameful use of bandwidth, I have no problem telling you to leave (as did a few others already). You need to get some friends and a girlfriend, but warn them about the imminent crash that comes with riding in your 5-series. You have a fart-can on your 5-series... What is wrong with you?
This is sad I actually spent the time to write all that... I'm contributing to the black hole that is this "build's" thread.
PM me for detailing services in the Longmont / Boulder Area in Colorado!

This thread need to be renamed to "Please, all dumb people, post in here", me included for joining this wonderful thread full of technical specs, accurate claims, sound practices and man love for a bunch of bf.c rejects.
Praise r3v.

so today was thanksgiving and my godfather and i met up and had some lunch/dinner and while talking i suggested we go check out my latest project. he asked what the next step was and the subject of fabricating my vaccume log came up after looking closely and taking a few measurements we decided to hollow out the fuel injectors and use them and the fuel rail as the vaccume log for the brake booster and idle air control valve. i will use the pretapped vaccume ports for the filter under the throttle body (i can't rmember the name at the moment but i think it's the carbon filter) and also the fuel pressure regulator. now the only things left are the plenum which hopefully will be done tomorrow and then the tps and throttle cable.
heres a few pics
i know the light is bad in this pic but frankly the point is to see the hollowed out injector
i just got to thinking i don't know if i ever explained who my godfather is he was a mechanical engineer for rolls royce and allison turbine for 25 years. he also consults on a number of aircraft restorations.
so yesterday was kind of interesting, it has been a little over 4 years since i welded and yesterday i realized that was way way way too long i had completely forgotten to weld and had to relearn how. in the process of relearning i quite seriously mucked the look of my plenum but it is at least air tight it just looks like crap, complete and total crap. i cut the pipe for the intake runners but thhey need to be straightened and rounded for mating to the plenum. i need to make a pattern and mark where to drill the holes in my plenum. i will post pics whenever i get around to it.
well i have been super busy with work and school so my mti has been at a standstill for a few days
your update here is appreciated as i was excited about how the throttle bodies and that hollowed out injector were coming along especially since fuel economy is good and burnouts are wicked fun. but yeah life can be hard with work and school and an mti done with solid welding can be a challenge in the face of what little time is available for sleep and sleep is needed to rest brain cells which in turn can be super handy for figuring out the most optimal construction of runners and such to be used in conjunction with a proper plenum which has holes in it for straightened and rounded tubes of pure fuckin awesomeness often associated with balls out monster motors of pure screaming fury that eat small children and rape even the hottest of un-rapable school teachers on meth. youll probably want to beef up the diff because it will turn into melba toast with cheese on it if it has to look upstream of the diveshaft which is inturn bolted to the transmission and so on. long story short its cool that you have the guidance of the godfather because it sounds like some of the things your talking about would require quite a bit of knowhow. on a closing note dude please accept my apologies because i am partially kidding here and in honesty look forward to checking this thread occasionally. you are way braver than i am and you are also much more resilient.
simon my design has been completely of my own doing when it came to designing the vaccume log my godfather suggested the fuel rail, he has been helpful when i need help but has intentionally done very little other work mostly because he doesn't believe in customization. not to say i am ungrateful for his help but we see things very differently he sees a car to goo from point a to point b i see a car to enjoy the hourney. he sees things as destinations i see things as an adventure between destinations, not to say any way is wrong but just different
one thing i have learned over the years for sure is that those who are uncertain or afraid tend to criticize things that they don't know about and stick to off the shelf parts or engine swaps guaranteed to give them power that they know for sure. as you can probably guess i am not one such person, i see a design i like and aspire to improve it, to tweek it, to try the unknown and go from there. if it doesn't work oh well who cares at least i can say i tried and had fun. if i don't make my power goals who cares it was my time and money i wasted and no one elses, i'll just figure something new out and start building that. life is about choices and in the end the results that YOU seek determine if YOU succeeded or failed. if you don't like what i am doing fine - stop reading if you do then continue to check back often and i will be more than happy to continue posting for your reading enjoyment-or amusement.
drive safe out there folks and remember the only person who inevitably will determine your success or failure is you.
