Gave her a wash, clay bar'd her. gonna do a polish soon, but got lazy.

        Update On Engine Build:

Dropped off the block, m52 crank, pistons, rods, and my head to a local machine shop....
Building an engine is expensive.....sheesh. I thought I knew what to expect...but it all adds up way higher to what you were thinking.

also, my BBS RX's with fairly new 205/50s. Worth much? Theyre 16x7 et35. I wanna run atleast a 225 up front and i'd like more in rear, so I need new wheels. I have my eyes on a 16x9 set but have no money to buy em, unless these RX's can get some $. Ive realized I dont see them too often. I know theyre NLA. But what are they worth? So I guess I'm testing waters?

Planning on building my engine at some point, Im assuming my 2.5k budget is already alot less than you have spent? I want some thing similar.

            Comment

depends what you want to do...I would build a $10k m20 if I could, but whats really needed? im already feeling im going overkill, and I'll prob finish up around 3-3.5k for just the motor rebuild...no turbo parts added. after turbo shit it will prob be like 5k.

The whole double it thing is true...cuz you never factor in all the little things...and those add up to the same value of your "Larger" purchases. Like over 800$ for gaskets/bolts if you replace em all with quality gaskets and ARP

Picked up my Head from the machine shop. Valves got fresh cuts

3angle valve job from 3d cutters

m52 crank all squeaky clean and is in great shape :)

Block is bored/decked I can't recall if he said it was honed yet.

Im putting an order into Steve @ BluntTech for bearings and gaskets so I have em for assembly.

                      got some parts.

Also changed the intake manifold gaskets on my 2.7i in my car chasing this vacuum leak. It helped a lot. the brakes and power steering feel much better/stronger.

But when I pull the dipstick or take the valve cover cap off...i still hear no change..so that means I still have a leak somewhere right?

I also ran over some debri on the freeway that was unavoidable because of traffic and it ripped off my iS lip. After traffic died down I went back and got my lip off the shoulder later that night haha. To find my splitter was gone and is lip got BEAT UP. Musta got ran over a few times cuz it was scuffed to crap and actually almost tore off a piece.

I used some JB Plastic Weld Putty, it worked great! Very strong and is still flexible.

                      Sanded it down

I primed it with sandable primer, then sanded, then painted with some flat black.

Im very happy with my 6$ easy fix rather than paying another 120 for a lip.

from 5 ft away you can't tell at all. If you get down on the ground and look at that corner closely you can see its been repaired. But thats fine by me :)

Morgan hill. APM custom engine. His name is Felix, he's a great/reasonable guy. Does great work too. He's more of a sbc domestic engine builder.

If you wanna spend more and have a "BMW specialist". Hit up terry Tinney. He's in Livermore. Haven't used him but heard good things.

                                I got lucky :)

Here's a pic of it back on. Man my car is getting beat up lately haha. Gotta straighten that valance some. but the lip stays on and looks good as new :)

You guys like my upper half car delete? haha. This angle looks weird.

As you can see, my splitter is no longer. Somewhere on the 280 south.

I met up with a engineer friend who graduated, he did some carbon fiber work at a job and got pretty good he said. So since I lost my splitter (and even before this), we talked about making a new splitter for me, but was thinking I can possibly make a bunch for you guys.

I'm looking to make a more functional splitter. Its gonna be kinda biased to late model iS cars, but if theres enough interest I can make them for early cars too.

My plan is to make a 2 piece splitter. Something very similar to Ryan G's for up front (sorry Ryan, your splitter looks so good), but I plan to make it two pieces and adjustable. Not knocking Ryan's splitter cuz I loved it. But it doesnt go back and cover the engine compartment. Mine will have a second piece that attaches to the front lip (in case you rip your front iS lip off and easier removal). It will go back to the control arms and will have an opening for a skid plate.

If theres serious interest in something like this, I can make different varieties, but for now its gonna be for 88+ iS spoilers.

I don't know too much about aero, but I know a function splitter is supposed to go back at least 2-3 ft under the car. I know we don't have diffusers or full underbody panels, but this would be a cool thing to have I think.

I plan to make the stuff out of ABS plastic and possibly make a mold for carbon fiber or fiberglass splitters. The second piece would always be ABS plastic because it can't be seen and would be unnecessarily expensive.

So thats a side project I'm working on with a buddy, may even make one for 1st Gen Camaros as well because we both have 67's :)

I'll keep you guys updated, so far we've only gone and priced out/chose materials.
