I don't think that is good for engines.

Late to the party – don’t think I’ve posted in this thread yet (?)

First off: props Matt on all your work thus far – and thanks for sharing your project here. I love pictures of new maintenance parts – and you have those in spades.

Secondly – I feel you on the engine bay – it’s an area that I personally only feel so motivated to ‘clean up’ and ‘detail out’.

Have to agree with others though: your initial bay work does pretty bad. I truly believe that if you spend some time cleaning it up – and working it out – it’s going to be one of those deals where it’s that much more rewarding when you’re done. I don’t see much expense in the work required – just some time. Fuck what the paint looks like – so long as it’s uniform-ish. I’m kinda WTF? on use of bedliner – but it’s your car. The lion’s share of ‘fix it’ work I see when it comes to your bay is taking time with paper towels and acetone to wipe/clean up overspray.

Regarding a load-leveler – see what’s available for rent. I suppose one could separate engine and transmission, install engine, and then put transmission on from below if you really had to do without one.

In any event – it’s your project – make the best of things and have fun doing it.. and thank god warmer temps are around the corner!

Went and bought some flap wheels, and the reason it looks dark is because the sand in the paint is black...

Dude, this is not the end of the world so dont beat yourself up. Remember it is the end of winter right now and you are probably low on vitamin D. Every february/ march i start feeling down and worn out + the scenery is all dreary looking and the weather is still sucking. And every year it catches me off guard and i dont know whats wrong with me. And winter isnt even very long here . So summer is coming bro and your situation will look totally different soon and you will feel different about it. Also females will be short shorts and skirts and sun tan lotion, the sun will be shining (vitamin D) , you can work in a tshirt, and feel the breeze while you are driving, HELL YEAH!! Just step back for a minute and re evaluate where you are heading on this project and where you want to end up. You are almost there, Keep the faith!

Then why the fuck are you building cars? Prioritize for fuck sakes.

You have your lazy self in a bind now. The only way your gonna come out of this is hours and hours of striping and sanding.

Go by a stripping wheel and take that shit back down to bare metal.
Re-bondo you're shaved areas because a baboon could have smoothed them out better. Sand with 320 until its nice and smooth and looks right. not almost right or good enough, Right.
Prime that shit, sand it again, prime it again, sand it again.

    TAPE YOUR FUCKING STUFF OFF

    Re paint.
Feel better about your self for actually doing some work. Not just posting parts you bought, or spray painting things.

Now I have to go shower for being helpful in this thread.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it almost looks like you have a black engine bay under the haphazardly sprayed white bedliner. I still can't get over the kooky fact that somewhere out there, they sell white bedliner.

Come on bud, I know you can do this.
This guy's onto something! If you put up a helpMattpainthisenginebay sale more people will probably jump on them. Heck, I probably would.
