              When I was putting my rack in (without the motor obviously) I almost made that same mistake. Got to thinking why would BMW put them in that way because if they came loose the bolt would fallout. Then it hit me you wouldn't be able to remove the steering rack without removing the motor.

                  Jesus, you have to take the entire front end off the B5 chassis just to touch the motor. What a pain in the ass car to work on.

                    if I have to lift the engine oh well, I would rather do that then have a steering rack fall out or become very loose while i am driving.

                      If your worried about parts you've installed literally falling off your car at speed then perhaps for everyone's safety you should to find a competent mechanic to work on your car for you. ;)
