Project 88 325is, vert replacement (because racecar content) -- R. I. P.
Final welding will be done tomorrow, but the tubes to the front shock towers are fitted. The cross bar for the roof is fitted as well, just not welded in yet.
trust me, neither can I. You're looking at my transportation too, besides a cool project. Breaking my hand threw a wrench in the spokes though, since now I'm basically a lefty (now) and can't turn a wrench effectively enough to do any work. Not that I should anyway with my hand. Trying to keep it out of harms way and elevated, it turns into a joke really fast. Therefore not a whole lot is getting done when I'm the only one here. (Im not the welder either, if you hadn't read so already)
Nonetheless, here is most of the list, as copied from what I posted in the "what to do before the picnic" thread...
It's starting to look grim for bfest with my car since I broke my hand, but this is my list......
Pull front subframe and struts from car and install my m52/trans/suspension I took out of the vert
Install 944 booster and modified brake lines (no abs)
Fix bent arc8s
Remove ds from vert, replace csb, install in 88
Remove trailing arms and weld on camber/toe correction plates. Sub is already dropped. Reinstall with diff.
Remove rear hardline T from vert for 88, stole it from the 88 for the abs delete.
Install mishimoto radiator with my 12" permacool fan
Finish last few tubes for roll cage (to front shock towers), paint cage and interior
Install ds door, with lock cylinder from original door. Map pockets off too, or it wont close.
Reinstall f/r windows, new lock strips needed and rear window seal.
Straighten roof more, and patch sunroof hole with cf panel from ebay...
Install pass fender, buy and install pass sideview mirror on door
Buy, install, rear is lip
Install headlights, grilles, valence, and plastic bumpers (bare plastic atm, must be at least primed. Same for the valence, I detexturized it, so it's bare metal)
Paint car (lol? Or just roll un matching )
Wire car with painless wiring kit, no auto door lock, but ineed to figure out how to wire the pwr windows and e36 switches without any of the stock harness. May try to retain the mirror adjustment motors functional, too.
On top of the painless kit, I need to incorporate my RaceTechnology Dash2 display, aka my new instrument "cluster"...this is a good project in itself, wiring and programing for sensors etc
Install race seats with side mounts, ill probably make the brackets.
Buy, install, ss braided brake lines
freshen up stock brakes with new rotors and pads, not enough dough yet for a bbk
For example, this is basically all I actually finished on the weekend, a little block off plate for the heater hose. I subscribe to the no heater equals no spider hose, and blocked off the rear port with a piece of scrap .25" aluminum. I retained that wimpy paper gasket under the plate. If it leaks (somehow), ill redo it with some permatex.
Mono wiper in progress, test fitting the bends. The arm on the motor itself needs to be shortened about a quarter inch so that it will get full sweep and allow the motor to actually turn all the way around.
Pics uploading...phone is deciding to be slow.
Insurance forked out another $1200 to compensate for not being asked to pay for a rental. They offered, I didn't take it up. I know the time they would be paying for one would be insignificant on the total time it takes to finish my car. Besides that, I was already out of a car for two months they finally accepted responsibility. Certainly can use that better for my car than renting one.
The actual value of my car though, they are still jerking me around. With comparables they aren't following their own rules they told me were in place, which is why several of the cars I submitted were not considered. Such bs. Studying their report reveals some really off base values too, and backwards compensations, its no wonder why many people just take what they get. Its a frustrating jumblefuck of numbers and unsympathetic adjusters.
Well, the roof bar is in, and were working on the sort if built in strut bar behind the firewall today. Dimple died strips are done too to connect A/B pillars and roof to the cage. I've cleared OSH out of their dark machine grey twice now. I used a little of it for the mono wiper.
What it looked like at noon, two more little tubes go in today to that bar then the dimple die strips, our band saw broke it's blade though, so slow on those.
The tube behind the firewall is new.

Exactly, haha. One thing after another though, my welder just ran out of wire some time today. Means no little tubes were put in. Yet another to be continued. Waiting on the insurance to cut me another check for that rental thing though. That and my pay check this friday, take out rent due, I still won't have the $$ I need to finish the car. It is getting much nearer to completion even if its just finalizing parts lists though.
Okey, well I just ordered some stuff from Blunt. SS lines, CSB, rear window seal, F/R lock strips, and a late model overflow tank. +1 for Blunt price :D
Also placed a 3 other orders so far, individual parts each...but a little spendy. One is an eBay CF sunroof delete panel, and two from Ary; their dash for one, and DTM rear wing. Not spending the extra $$$ to get the CF look, Im painting it all anyway.
Blunt is the fuckin man, I just ordered the stuff yesterday and got a package today sent "overnight pm", I got it in the morning anyway because I haf it sent to my work. I asked just for ground, but he split the order by what I can only assume what he had on hand, and I got my reservoir and csb already! Whoever doesn't order from Steve is missing out...
