    Still not in the workshop!!! Oh well the longer it isnt the more money i accumulate for the conversion itself.

    ANYWAY

    Attended the World Time Attack Challenge at Eastern Creek in Sydney on the weekend and this was there:-

    David Towes E30 M3 race car. What suprised me was the stock like suspension in the rear? It has centre lock wheels but what looks like a stock rear arm setup. Can anyone comment on why this may be/thoughts???

      Looks pretty good suspension wise to me? Coilovers in front are top height adjustable by turning those top threaded sleeves. I assume rear is the same. Rear has been converted to full coilovers with spring on shock, adjustable too. Surely enough fully strengthened too

        Understand all of that, was just wondering why the rear control arms and subframe looks to be stock unlike the DTM and other race cars i have seen.

          UPDATE

          Well its in :)

          Many more things to adapt, move and look factory (worked on the heater and coolant lines today) Moving along quite quickly (we only wheeled it into the shop a week ago) now and chipping away at all the small items.

          the goal is for this to be a stock looking reliable form of daily driving;)

            Not sure which of the JPS cars that is, but I do know the very 1st one was actually a converted 325i. As far as I recall the JPS cars were also very early itinerations of GRP A cars and that is more than likely the reason for the stock trailing arms (were the arm mounts modified in anyway?)

            Really like how the engine sits upright in the bay. Looks awesome!

                How is it all going?

                Quite well actually. Engine is straight and upright and clearing all items now. It is resting as far back as possible and looks like it belongs there.

                The engine and gearbox crossmember mounts are all complete and fitted (as oem as possible using the nicely made Altezza aluminium mounts etc)

                I pick the tailshaft up tomorrow, looking at the wiring diagrams the whole stock cluster can hopefully be used (may integrate the m40 coolant temp sensor into the beams cooling system and will hopefully get a tach adapter for the rpm so i can retain the oem look)

                The gear shifter actually lines up with the transmission tunnel hole perfectly too.

                Heater hoses rerouted easily enough. brake booster has been angled 2mm or so to the left hand side for extractor clearance. Amazingly the beams 4-2-1 extractor exhaust fits with minor mods to the heat shields that surround it (stops after the transmission in a almost identical manner to the m40 besides it being on the opposite side)

                Wiring will be undertaken in the next few weeks.

                The things that are left are:-

                * Radiator (stock item does not fit with the Altezza airbox)
                * Fit the stock airbox (not simple, it has a 2 stage opening and is quite large)
                * Custom a/c pipes to connect to the compressor etc (different positioning)
                * Custom swaybar (sits on the bellhousing of the gearbox)
                * Connect and mount the power steering reservoir
                * Mount the wiring/ecu etc in the engine bay like the oem Altezza
                * Mount the washer bottle somewhere else
                * Wiring
                * EPA legal exhaust
                * Engineers cert
                * Rego
                * Drive (street sleeper)

                Will post more pictures and video (as soon as it starts and runs)

                            And it has been started!

                            Running well and the rest of the wiring will soon follow (things like the water temp guage, engine check lights, load sensing power steering etc)

                            Then to the exhaust place for a Euro3 cat and then its drive time. i Cant wait!

                              WOW! Such a cool conversion, one that I've thought about many times.

                              You're in Australia too. I'll have to get out East at some point to check this out in person.

                                Car will be back from the exhaust place tomorrow. We even managed to get the load sensor for the steering to adapt to the BMW rack.

                                Will take a video of it running as soon as i see it.
