Yeah I should have gone with stainless lines when everything went on in the first place, but I honestly didn't even think of it. Not sure if that's gonna happen now though as I already told Jeremy I'd buy his contours and I might be picking up an M44 tomorrow to play with.

Good idea with the contours, my favorite e36 wheel.

What are you planning with the m44? some sort of stroker with m40 and m10 parts?

I wanted it to use with some M42 wiring to drop into the touring but the deal didn't work out. I need to leave this car as is for now and get some more work done on my early model.

I'm in the same spot with mine, I have to stop buying shit and keep money for the winter.

I should have at least one weekend off in november(although not sure when yet), we should get your m50 swap on the go.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. BMW NA screwed us on that car. I would do naughty naughty things with that car. Coils for this car or the early model?

Dear God it's been almost two years since I updated this. Crazy how much has changed. Here's a pic from last week.

              And from yesterday

I'm not good with photography, deal with it. The main points:

M50tu swap. What a PITA that was. Had to do it when the timing belt on the M40 broke. Work space was an hours drive away and I had no car in the mean time. I ran into more than my fair share of problems doing the job and it took like a month of weekends. After a year later I'm just now starting to think it was worth it.

E30M3 5 lug. Absolutely awesome. Replaced a lot of the suspension components while I was in there. Suspension consists of:

              New Lemforder control arms
              New Lemforder m3 swaybar endlinks
Condor Speed shop delrin control arm bushes
              Rebuilt E24 635 front calipers
              Stainless brake hoses
              Revshift trailing arm bushes
Revshift "riser" subframe bushes and diff stud/spacer kit. With H&R race my rear camber is within factory spec. Love 'em.
              New rear wheel bearings
POR 15 treated and painted rear subframe, front strut tubes and trailing arms.
Staggered M-Systems 17x8 front and 17x9 rears, 225/45R17's all around.

Also did a stainless steel braided clutch line for the clutch. I like the way it looks. Bought everything mentioned above from Blunttech.com.

I'm still running Bilstein Sport dampers and H&R race springs. Still want to do some kind of coilover conversion, mostly to up the spring rate a bit to keep the rear from rubbing. I'll probably put up some more pics when I have them.

BIG thanks to Blunttech and especially to Terry (username Northern) for helping me do the clutch line and a new master cylinder in the pouring rain and for letting me camp out in his spare bedroom when my GF broke up with me and kicked me out. You can see his weirdo model iX in one of the pics above.

Whoa, awesome car. Great progress. Those m systems look great (though you have the throwing star caps on backwards :p)

M40 has a t belt, lol. I had forgotten. No wonder everyone hates them.

Fuck yeah. Good pic of the Touring, iX and Tarpcar. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Plans for this weekend are to install new aluminum thermostat housing, 80degree m20 thermostat, new water pump and used m20 Mishimoto radiator. Also going to clean up the wiring for the electric fan that I had to completely add in. This car had no fuses or relays for an aux. fan as it was a 4 cylinder without a/c. I added in a relay, jumped power from one 7.5 amp fuse and one 30 amp and used an e36 318i temp sender in the rad. Comes on right at half way and turns off at about 3/8ths. The wiring looks ugly right now but it's better than just having the fan run constant off of the ignition.

Did most of the cooling system re do last night until (and a little after) it got dark.

                              Getting started

My room mate (Northern) working on his e brakes

(Mostly) new cooling system parts and needed suplies

Old rad (don't ask) vs. not so old rad

All the old stuff off vs the new stuff

New water pump on. I was prepared for the old one to be stuck on but a few whacks with the rubber mallet and it loosened up nicely and out she came, along with a river of coolant...

Yay! M20 80 degree thermostat installed behind an aluminum t stat housing and metal impeller water pump. That along with the mishimoto rad should alleviate the temperature creep I had been experiencing.

Installed the rad and hoses and bled the system last night. I'm just about to take it for a drive to see how well I did. Will post more underhood shots of the shiny radiator and maybe some shitty pics of nice things depending on how far into my little cruise I get.
