Pantless Spencys zinno ETA fix-up thread. ~NOW RUNS YAY~
on my 17th birthday i bought my first e30 and never wrenched on a car before (never even changed a spare), drove it home and the HG blew, parked it in front of my house (no garage), read up on the forums and knew that the HG blew, went that night to pick up a Bentley at Autozone, went to school the next morning (high school junior), studied the Cylinder head section for an entire period, got home, went to the mom and pop's auto shop where they had a M20 HG kit conveniently and timing belt kit, slapped it on (head was straight), drove e30 next night after headbolts came in. M20 lasted 8000 miles before I went M50
marco suggested just running the car to running temp and then draining the oil and changing the filter two times in a row to get rid of all the scotch brite debris, would you guys say this is safe?
lolcantturn: i know it is quite ridiculous how long it has taken me, and i know you mean no harm your just simply trying to push me to get it done. trust me im pretty upset with the situation as well, i'm trying to do it as quickly and safely as possible. for a few long periods of time there was no work going on with the car and i know i suck for that.
This is what steve@blunt told me to do for coolant/oil mix
"Get yourself 3 -5 liter bottle of cheap shit oil and 3 filters. Drain it and dump in 5 qts and a new filter. This is of course with new head on. Run it till warm and drop the oil and filter. Then do it 2 more times. Then it should be good. Then use good oil and filter. Hope this makes sense. Hard to type on a phone"
Lift up your engine from the subframe(disconnect the mounts first), then remove the pan and flush the passages out like stated before. Driving it and changing the oil will not remove it good enough. Might as well do it right while you're in there.
So get the FUCK off r3v and go fucking work on your e30 instead of raising your post count. I don't care if you have 30k posts or 3 posts, it does not translate into car knowledge. Reading up and DOING does.
Clearing passages:
Screw driver, dig around to make room for the kerosene or whatever you're using. Funnel that is a little smaller than the holes(puts the fluid in the holes). I found my funnel at a cooking store. Pour fluid into the funnel and use a coat hanger to help it through. Have a catch bucket at the bottom, repeat till they are clean. So damn easy man.

when this car gets going i will personally ship 2 escorts to your bedroom
They are harder to get at with the pan closer to the frame. Lifting the engine higher would gain more room...how would that make it harder?
I never have rolling issues when I use one on the e30. Mount it directly above the engine and remove the nuts on the bottom of the engine mounts. It is much faster to pop them in dropping from above. Also buy new engine mount bushings, going to be lifting it up already. Do it while you're in there for how cheap they are.
