    Sure thing.

To pull the trans, we use a ratchet strap and pull the trans output to one side or the other. Those top bolts are a pain on a 24v swapped car too. As far as the flywheel, it appears normal for one that's been in operation. It should be fine, but it's also cheap to have them refinished as insurance. Looks like you will have to wait for another disk anyways, right?

I unbolt the motor mounts and slide the motor forward, then tilt the back of the transmission down to gain access to those bolts using a long extension.

Let it rest on the back of the head touching the firewall and oil pan on rack/sub-frame? Never tried that, but bet it makes a lot of room up there.

How common is a new warped clutch? Never heard of this until today... I would be livid if I paid that much for a clutch kit (I assume you spent 300+) and the fucking clutch was out of round.

How much can you get the flywheel machined for? If it's under $40-50 then it's worth it. Pulling trannies sucks.

I'll just get it resurfaced its only around $50. I emailed spec and I'll see what they have to say about getting a refund or something.

            The stage 5 was $485:(

I hope they fix it. I wonder how it came from the factory warped.

Not common at all. They are packaged right against the pressure plate. It usually happens when mating the trans and engine. The weight of the trans can bend them, alinement tool is a must for BMW's. We check them before installing, and haven't had a new clutch disk bent out of the box, and we do about 3 clutch jobs a month on average.

Kam, while in there, replace the shift fork/spring and pivot ball (cheap and easy to do while apart). Also we usually sand any corrosion off the trans input shaft and make sure the pilot can slide easily on it. Using the bolts to pull them together can bend them, engine/trans should slide together easily by hand.

Not exactly a lot of room, I would say just enough lol. Done this countless times with jack stands in the driveway. All worth it though...!!

John beat me to it by a few posts, but that is what it first sounded like to me.

I've done clutch derbs before where my hands slipped off the tranny and the trans was being held up just by the input shaft for a few seconds. Never any comebacks when I was doing this professionally, no problems with personal stuff.. not to say that couldn't cause this issue.

My take is that there was either a manufacturing QC issue or something. I'd be super saiyan pissed if the company I bought the clutch from didn't warranty it.

I know it kinda sounds like a dick move, but if they aren't cooperative I'd let them know that you've got enough publicity/pull with the e30 community to potentially negatively affect their business. I'm sure you won't have any issues... but if you do, I'd start a blacklisting campaign on principal alone.

Smart. Unnecessary, but smart. Never would've thought to check for this... almost makes me feel like a noob again. What do you guys use to check for runout? Mount it on a brake lathe + dial caliper or something?

The trans was mated to the engine out of the car and went on really easy, the thing is the disk does lay flat on the pressure plate, its bent in relation to the center splines so as soon as you mount it on the trans splines is when you see its bent.

Just have been through this. Once the part is installed, shop suppliers won't take them back. Lost a lot of money in parts this way. Once was a brand new vanos actuator, another new CPS, and then some.

Same test as the vid above. Put disk on trans input flange and turn output.
