G'day mates,

thought I would share my project on another forum, and what better place than here!


to start:
its a 90 318i m40 auto 4 door. seems pretty basic right?
well it kinda is.

lowered using king springs - front low, rear superlow
2.5" homemade straight pipe
white eyebrows and kidney grill
tinted tail lights, side and front indicators
soundstream DVD single din headunit
had 17" rims, but back to hubcaps for 'sleeper look', plus the camber destroyed the 17's

plans: well for now, i dont want to swap the engine out, theres something about the m40, plus im poor. so turbo it is! then manual conversion

im using a garrett t25, custom manifold and dump pipe (ebay aus), bottom mount intercooler and 8:1 FMU

the turbo will be put in staring on the 7th march, and hopefully done over a few days

ill keep this updated, i know im not gonna make huuuge power, and yes a m20 swap is probably cheaper but im doing this for fun, and soon ill play around with megasquirt once its up and running

while im doing the swap, ill have to ride in my other daily driver:

please ditch auto, sticker (besides mustache that ones sick) and ugly white eyebrowz and kidneys.

the photo with the rocks in the background was done with an LED light facing upto the rocks to illuminate them, but I quite like the tinted red plate filler/garnish compared to the usual black one.

it should be alright on low boost, its 8.8:1CR and engine is healthy apart from one occasional noisy hydraulic exhaust lifter, ill only run 8-9psi

the stickers are going soon, unsure of what to do with the grill, nothing I have tried seems to suit it so I left it at that, might just go back to stock.

theres a 5speed, tail shaft and centre console sitting in the garage so that'll go in after ;)

yeah im gonna play around and rip them off tomorrow,

its soo weird driving it with the manual pedal there now, might put the manual console in and gaiter/knob on to confuse people even more.
the car facing the city is my favourite photo, but i tried printing it enlarged, its too grainy, i have it in like 4000x3000 resolution from my mates camera, might have to go retake it and play around with camera settings, that was a 4 second exposure.

considering starting the turbo install this weekend, but well see how things go

Ive heard they used the m40 over in Europe in a racing series and that they can be built pretty good.

well, the stickers are all gone, even the eyebrows,
considering going to the wreckers this weekend to pull the motor out of the 318i there to learn how to do it and pinch the fly and clutch while I'm there as my mate reckons it'll be easy to do clutch when the motors out, and rather than trying to drop the auto while on jackstands.

Much better without the eyebrows! So your going to pull a motor from the junkyard to get the used clutch out of it? Or just to practice pulling a motor? I'm confused.
