Alpina used the 245 gearbox bolted to a M30 in their E21 B6 and they did ok.
Iirc Pete McHenry had a g245 behind a built 3 liter m50 and it lasted for awhile but not for very long of awhile

I think I'll be ok, then. Are the 228mm and 240mm pressure plate any different in external size? I wonder if there's any issue fitting the bigger one in the g245 bellhousing..

240 clutch will not fit in a 245 bellhousing.

A friend with an Alpina B6 e21 replaced the Alpina 2.8 M30 with a 3.6 liter built M30 and the 245 did fine behind it.

argh that's annoying. I'm assuming a 228 disc and pressure plate won't bolt up to a 240 flywheel? So I can't use the aluminum one I have?

I can give you a ride in my car once its done. Alum M52 w/ S52 cams, & 540i MAF. Car should weigh around 2400# because its a no options early model. Weighed 2400# with M20 and it was a riot. Full interior with no power accesories. Kept up with my friends S50 car with the M20.

                          that sounds fun!

I want to get this car weighed, it's on the light side for sure.

I read about boring out the aluminum blocks and it looks like it sucks - they're steel sleeves so you need the sleeves pressed out, the thing bored, new sleeves made and installed. A lot of work for 52 lbs. It would probably be cheaper to get custom forged pistons made that'll let me run the s52 crank, rods and head in an aluminum block.

Do that. TMS accidently sent me S52 pistons instead of the M52 and my machine shop guy said no way. I had a S52 crank at the time and the only way it wouldve worked was with custom pistons. Might want to look into M54 internals also

I know for a fact you can lose closer to 75% of that. Just sayin'.
