That Comet/Scotchbrite/wax process turned out better than I expected. I did something similar to a black '64 Bug, except it was so long ago that Scotchbrite wasn't available yet! You'll probably find it necessary to apply wax very frequently.
On side note, did you see the 1958 BMW 503 Cabriolet that placed 3rd in the open class? It had been something like 40 years since a BMW placed in an open class. It was restored by The Werk Shop just north of Chicago and everyone there was very proud when I visited yesterday. The owner gave me one of the cookies the female owner had made for the celebration party.Comment

The 503 was white and it was at Pebble Beach on Sunday. I watched it drive up and down the center stage. A thing of beauty it was.world renown Harry Potter expert

When i saw scotch brite and comet all i could think was
Until i saw the close ups.. Ive had my fair share of shitty paint cars. Imo just give her one night of hardcore carnuba wax then seal it with a synthetic like nufinish.

That isn't a bad suggestion. After you mentioned nufinish, I started doing a bit more research on other comparable synthetic sealants. I like where this is going.

Much better than reapplying carnuba every few weeks. If your removing color also there might not be any paint left after a year. Carnuba under a synthetic though will give you the same shine then you could just layer more carnuba and sealer and build it up depending how deep you want the paint to look. When you wash use some car soap with carnuba, dish soap actually strips wax off.

I haven't driven the car in about a week so I wanted to clean it up and replace a few things.
First was this rear window latch. It looks like it's from a later 2002, but I'm not sure. I haven't checked any other cars to compare. Either way, the 1600 has chrome pieces that are original and I happened to have an extra, so I swapped it out.
Old latch:
New (patina'd) latch:
I've been meaning to change this for months, and finally got around to it.
And then here is a shot of the interior. Still cleaning things. 40 years of dirt and grime in all the nooks and crannies. Getting there.
I also changed the cabin filter on the m3 today. My AC wasn't very powerful and I knew it had something to do with the filter. I was right. Took about 20 minutes to replace and the difference in airflow is black and white. AC on full blast is like an arctic hurricane.

Wow. That's next level dirty. Night and day. Black and white.

This car is undergoing some fine tuning. I've decided that I don't think the carb/ignition system are working at optimum levels. I'm going through baseline tests now and will change/fix things accordingly.
Photos and details to come later in the week.world renown Harry Potter expert
