That's what I was saying the whole time. Such a dramatic difference in paint. The paint still has very deep scratches that are highly visible at 2+ feet, but it's now a decent 20' car.

Mikey, I'm planning a Big Sur trip soon and would like to pass through SB and grab a bite. Would you have time to hang?

Thanks! I really enjoy taking crappy photos and writing sentences about my progress. It's tedious, but without this blog, I wouldn't be able to recall all the things I've done to the car.

It's a very unconventional build, but I like that it is different.
        Glad you can enjoy it.

Paint came back amazingly well. Single stage enamel baby!

And any BMW with "bullet hole patina" gets my vote.

I may be in the minority here, but I prefer the patina look. It had more character.

Myself included. After owning so many swirl and imperfection free cars, I love the look of that patina.

Do you remember all the cracks, etc in the paint ? I bet the paint still has loads of patina even though it is a bit shinier now.

Ryan, post a current close up pic of the trunk or hood.

I'll get that photo this weekend. The car is plenty dusty and I sanded a lot more today. Then I thought long and hard why I still have the beltline trim on there so I removed a few pieces. I'll probably redo parts of what was already done.

And with all the other parts that I took off, I opened a box of seals and gaskets that I bought from Blunt two years ago.
Lo and behold, I found a brand new set of tail light gaskets. I knew this car came with another set of tail lights so I found them and laid everything out.

Of the four tail lights, I wanted to make one decent set. Now I know that I still need to replace the inner reflector piece that has a hole burned in it, but for the sake of the photo, here is completed set:

I also need to take care of the rear suspension drop. I really liked where the wheels were before I threw the stage 2 springs in. I'll probably have to remove the 3-dot spring pads and line the top coil of the springs with a rubber hose, Blunt's M2 style. I may remove both pads and just run springs.

But I also have the 1-Dot spring pads that came on this 1600. I want this rear end as low as before. I'll meditate on this.

More photos coming. Always coming to a 1600 blog near you. Actually just this one. I'm hungry and I already had a burrito today. I think I'm going to starve.

You're literally the new Gus without the pony tail.
Who needs Gus? We sure don't anymore. Let's put him out of business.

^ I think it's reasonable given the improved performance and longevity.
