Went and fiddled with it some before I headed out of town for weekend. Here is what I know. The starter is getting power and the sub harness for the alternator has the correct wire on the power wire and the car starts so we know its getting power to that point. I will hit it MM at the end where it connects to alt but I'm almost positive I will have power at the alternator end. The other big terminal on the starter has the wire going from the starter to starter motor and then I have the 2 small terminals. 1 has the small wire from alt on it and other has small wire from engine harness on it. Are both the small wires supposed to be on the starter? I will post pic of my starter setup later today.

My euro 320i/B6 3.5 Alpina Tribute the never ending saga

Replaced the alternator and what I thought was a bad alt is bad wiring. Somewhere... My alt isn't sending sending power to charge the battery. I turned headlights on to get some sort of draw from it and.... My headlights no longer work... They worked flawlessly when I wired them up now only the lights in the dash come on and my brights are on according to dash no matter what setting yet I get nothing out the front of the car. Maybe my switch went out? Still doesn't begin to explain the alternator issues. Maybe the wires going from starter to alt are shorted or not hooked up correctly although iirc they only fit one way?

it sounds like you're missing a cylinder.

They are all firing. Ive made sure of it. Compression is good in all of them.

Buddy snapped this pic while I was hooking truck up to get car back to shop.

The idle doesn't move at all. Stays right at 1000 runs perfectly aside from the alt going out. I've gone over every square inch of the engine numerous times. There is nothing else wrong with it. Icv, afm they are all in perfect working order and test. ALL vac lines have been replaced and then smoke tested to be sure there was no vac leaks. Timing has be checked and rechecked and valves have been set and reset.

Went to take car in maiden voyage today. Got onto main street and to turn out of town onto main highway and the car just dies and wont turn over. It wants to but it simply doesn't have the voltage too. I checked battery and it was at 3 volts. This battery cant be bad Ive had it running in other cars and its brand new so I'm thinking it just drained over time and the alt just never charged it. I will test alt tomorrow. But I'm like 98% sure thats the issue. So I'll get a new one from buddy at orielly's with his discount and slap it on. Other then that the car ran amazing. The cam lope is so awesome haha

So I tinkered some more tonight and I do believe I got it fixed and now time to drive. I started with checked and seeing if the car was getting all the fuel it needed and that checked out. Then after talking with a buddy who is a long time BMW mechanic and m30 guru. He suggest I check my tb set screw. Low and behold I put about 1mm of throttle in the car on idle. Re adjusted the tps to the new TB flap position and presto car idles near perfectly I think it will even out and get to where it should be when I put some miles on her and get the chip fully programmed to the ecu since really its just idled.

Good luck dude. I'd like to see her run.

Cam should be timed correctly. I followed marks just like Bentley stated and before i bolted upper cover on i spun motor over a few times to make sure the came and bottom returned to TDC at end of each cycle.

As for the running like crap, might be a timing issue, most likely something simple.

Crank bolts are correct size as i reused old ones. They aren't a stretch bolt that I know of?

I went out there this morning and drove it around. It did great for the first trip around the block but then after that it was iffy. When i got to stop sign i popped it in neutral and all was okay. Then when i put it in 1st it died and and would stay running on restart. I had to start it in first and immediately give it gas as it started so i could get going and not have it die again. I was also on an incline so maybe its a fueling issue? And the whistle well idk wtf that is. I re torqued manifold bolts maybe they were loose
