    1JZ E30 Project.

I recently bought a 325IX for a 1JZ swap. So the engine and drive train will all be for sale soon. Possibly the whole front end assembly.. Maybe someone can tell me that knows about the swap. I've only seen ones in an IS with out the awd front end...

Anyways heres the start. Got it home and starting stripping it to find more and more rust....

    1JZ E30 Project.

We'll I'm sure anything is possible if you can fabricate or have deep pockets. Because even a m50/s50 swaps are almost never done in ix's because there's just know good way about doing it. Now I don't claim to know anything about a 1jz swap into a rwd e30 but I can tell you this, your pretty much going to need to build your own oil pan. I'm not sure if you can make the stock tranny work or not but with the ix the tranny is unique to the transferase.

Good luck though, and I'd like to see where this ends up going.

I have found quite a few threads of a 1JZ swap in E30's.

But I plan on using the R154 tranny that goes on a 1J..

The whole front end assembly is what I don't know about on the IX's..

      And thanks!

You might want to look into matting a r154 with the ix transfercase.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with the awd system but the front diff is squeezed up against the oil pan. I can't picture the size of a 1zj or how it will sit the the bay, because you can't really move the front diff anywhere, and the half shaft is still going to need to go right through the pan.

Just curious but why a 1jz swap in a ix? I mean I'm all for something that hasn't been done before but don't they only make like 370 at the crank? You can get a m20 to do that with stock internals and a turbo.

          More like 280hp stock.

Personally, I'll never understand why anybody would swap a different manufacturer's I6 engine in to an E30. BMW make the best I6's out there and for the most part they bolt right in to an E30(not iX).

The only reason its an IX is because I didn't even know it was until I got all the way there and it wasn't in the worst shape for the price. So I figured parting that out I might make a few dollars.

And well I wanted to do a 1JZ. And it'll be around 500whp

Also I don't want to keep the AWD if thats what you're saying. I basically just want it to be like an IS with a 1JZ. If its going to be too much work I may just sell this and look more for an IS..

500 whp can and has been done with a few ix's before but you'll tear through front diffs if your rough on the clutch. To be honest if your looking for that kind of power I'd just go rwd.

Sell the damn iX and buy an i.

Or sell me your manual swap (if it's manual).

That's one thought I have. It is a Manuel and will be for sale very soon.

You have an Evo too ? I had an '05 for 4 years and totaled it then sold it. Miss that thing

BMW makes some great I6's but, there's no arguing that the 1/2jzs and RB series motors aren't great as well, especially on boost.

Yeah I have nothing against them. I've just wanted to do a 1JZ build for awhile originally in a S13.. But than changed to an E30..

This is the most informative write up I've seen on the swap.

Definitely sell the ix if you have no plans of using awd. Would be a shame to cannibalize it like that. Start with a rwd shell.
