The Dirty E30: My new 84 318i project on a budget

Picked up this little beater about two weels ago for cheap. Its an 84 318i, m10 5 speed car. Runs great! (Now) body is fairly straight, few small rust spots and a few small dings. Nothing that I cant fix though. Interior is ugly, stained up carpet dash is cracked, has some old worn busted and faded racing seats. Has unknown lowering springs and worn shocks. Going to be a budget build. Thinking matte or satin silver paint. Some nice 15x8" wheels. New shocks, Clean up the interior, unsure if I want to gut or not yet. New seats, and door panels for sure though. Have made a little progress so far.

    The day it came home:

My "pick and pull special" exhaust. Found a nice stainless muffler and nearly new glasspack and the local pick n pull, paid $12.99 for this exhaust system. 2 1/4 from the y-pipe all the way back. Sounds great! No rasp through the entire rpm range. And it has a nice deep tone to it.

Ditched the cat, added a glass pack in its place:

Exhaust all done ready to be re-installed:

Removed icv system and fixed a couple vaccume leaks and ran a bottle of seafoam through it. Alot cleaner without the icv cluttering up the intake. Runs 10x better now:

A/c removed: dropped about 50lbs of junk

Nice. I just picked up an '84 318i for my DD. Love the m10. Can't wait to see what you do down the road.

                  Thanks guys!

Small update: changed the oil, went full synthetic. Cleaned the afm and ditched the stock air box for a cone filter. Made a huge difference in driveability. Ive seen alot of people say that cone filters and air intakes dont make any difference on the m10. Doesnt feel like it is choking as much anymore, throttle response is better and the car seems to pick up alot quicker.

Welded up a bracket to prop the filter up, still need to paint it though. But it cleaned up the look under the hood alot. Looks 10x better

Popped the cap off of the AFM, cleaned the leads adjusted the flapper wheel contacts and adjusted the wheel a couple clicks. Looks like its been popped off before so i didnt mess with it too much.

Have no stereo, so i cut up and bent up a steel plate to block it off. Looks much cleaner now

Plugs to go in today. New plug wires are next when funds allow.

Added an msd blaster ss coil the other day:

Will see how the new plugs and coil perform together later today.
Rocker arm/valve adjustment will be soon. Have a little tick/chatter In the valveterain. Need to get a valve cover gasket on order

Spray dyed the old ugly faded yellow/black racing seats. They looks almost brand new now!

I honestly have no clue, They were in the car when I got it. Probably no name ebay seats..theyre falling apart, will be replacing them once I can afford to! But for now the spray dye job works
