Hey gents, the time I have left with Heidi is closing in, and I am trying to figure the best way to go about this. Due to it's clean, rust free, unmolested, etc nature, I figured this car would appeal to a different crowd (BAT) as opposed to the beat up, needs work enthusiast (like myself).

The car will be completely gone through before it's sold, but I'm hung up on one thing:

Do I paint the car before sale? Or leave it as is? It's completely rust free, but the paint is terrible. Peeling, cracking, etc everywhere.

I just wonder what it'd fetch with existing paint vs fresh paint and if my investment will end up being worthwhile.

    Thoughts?

Don't paint it. It's only original once. Also, to the right buyer, they might want to spend more on the paint work than you did and a fresh less than perfect repaint might be a detractor. Anyone can buy it and then get it repainted, but you're cutting out buyers who wouldn't want it repainted if you do.

That is the battle I was wanting an opinion on. This car isn't going to go to a bottom dollar buyer, it's going to go to someone who wants a very clean base to work with.

The problem is, it's already been repainted, and whoever did so did a very poor job.

I will, Jesse. It's going to be a while before I'm able to get back to the car again to finish it up, so timing may end up better when I get back around to it!

At least it runs good now, thanks to someone's freshie tune ;D

Ah! Love that too! Been thinking about selling in my '13 WRX wagon to get an 04-07 FXT and blow the rest on more E30s.

Give me a deal, let me buy both of your cars! Hah

I was stopped next to one of those ferarri FFs in my mostly stock WRX today about to enter an on-ramp. When the light turned green the guys slammed the gas, so I did too, and he didn't pull as much as I was expecting. About 2 car lengths by the time we hit 100, and I was even on my low-boost DD map (I never street race but you can't say no to a fancy new ferrari being driven by the Jersey Shore guys)

Man, it was a PAIN to find the FXT in the sports package and in 5sp with a clean bill of health. I looked forever, and ever, and ever. I always joke that it'll be my 500,000 mile car, because it legit is the best cool, practical daily that exists.

It makes more power than any of my e30s probably ever will, it handles fine, and it tows my enclosed trailer flawlessly. I've done nothing to it (mod wise) but lock down bolts for the rear subframe to help with towing. I really need to tune it but I've been lazy.

It's funny, because most would never expect the car to be quick, but it really is! I always thought it'd be fun to throw an FP Green on it with a downpipe/STI TMIC and keep the stock catback, all without lowering it or anything. It's already the ultimate sleeper.

I really wish I could keep the iX, as I'm never gonna find one this clean that's not a million bucks, but it just doesn't make sense for me to keep it around with the addition of the M3 to the family.
