I'd run a regular intercooler? Maybe flip the intake tb and have even better results. Then again this isn't a seriously boosted motor so I'll if it would be worth that

I would like to run a regular IC, but yes I would have to flip the TB. I guess I could buy a spare manifold and have it welded up, but for now I'm going to fuck around with data and measurements and do my engineer bit :)

Damn those plugs are really toast. Normally with some hard driving they clean up but looks like way too much fuel.
NGKBP7ES are one heat range colder than the stock 6's. Not a significant difference in heat range to make that much of a difference but once you get AFR's in check you should switch back to them.
Check your oil also, 9-10 afr's means gas is getting washed past the rings and into the oil lowering the viscosity. If it smells like gas, change it.

            Science-y stuff!

After driving around for a month or so I was getting very concerned about the effectiveness of my intercooler. Being under the hood and not shielded in any way from the heat of the engine bay, it gets really fucking hot if I'm not cruising on the freeway. So hot that it's likely putting heat in to my charge air instead of taking it away! The fan only helps if it can get fresh air, and I can't leave the mister on constantly. So I decided to set up a measurement system so I can see what's going on and make some improvements.

I found these badass thermocouples on eBay for $10/each

I already had a k-type reader, so with two of these, I can measure my inlet/outlet temps

Just pull the intercooler, mark a spot, and drill a tiny hole

Mount the thermocouple and done! It's so easy.

Here's the probe tip inside the pipe

I ran the braided wires through the firewall and in to the glovebox, then attached my reader with an old cell phone mount

It's far from beautiful, but it will serve a purpose for a few weeks while I gather data.

For those of you that have an interest in measuring EGTs, you can get cheap digital readouts that will accept thermocouple inputs. This is by far the quickest, easiest way to do it.

Excited to see some data of light to heavy traffic differences. You should do a control of ranging speeds on an open stretch...maybe a burnout control? I think the last one is the most important ;D

Haha yes, burnout temps will be included :)

If only I had more data logging, I could show speed vs temps! That would be awesome to graph over time, so that I could see how speed effects the efficacy, how long it takes to heatsoak while siting still, how long it takes at speed to cool, how quickly the water mist cools, etc.

Any electrical gurus out there know how to make a simple data logger that could record temps and speed over time?

I remember in schol we had access to data loggers you speak of... they were able to be used for an entire semester of curriculum.

Now the name you ask?? Not a clue. It was translucent blue, USB... that was 15 years ago. They are probably niw bluetooth or some level of mindreading by now.
