Why weren't you running the factory ECU out of the 7? Shouldn't it just plug in and work and have a working (or at least functional) tune?

All 745i cars were either L-Jetronic (early m102 motors) or Motronic 1.1 (later m106 motors). There's no way to plug an M1.1 computer in to an M1.3 system.

Just read your build all the way through. Great job with everything, its finally refreshing to see someone who likes OEM just as much as I do. Also loved the color contrasts, the custom brackets.... Its just impressive how well done this car was put together. I've recently been toying with the idea of putting a M30 into my ix, and I think this build just sealed the deal for me.

I had so many similar issues with my m20 when I had Miller's draw thru setup on my car.
The transition to boost was SHIT, the idle was wonky if I played with the throttle, the AFR's were never consistent, and Dan Miller was the one who tuned it countless times as well. It didn't even make the power I had my goal set to and he said it was the best he could do.

Garbage. SO glad I went with MS. You're going to be so much happier.
Don't forget to reconnect your TPS WOT wire btw. I did the first time and confusingly trouble adjusting my TPS in tunerstudio.

Thank you! Yes I'm a sucker for the OEM+ stuff :)

I've never seen an m30 iX, that would be pretty awesome! Any ideas on how you're going to do the front drive bits?

Thank you. Right now things are kind of on hold while I save up some $ and take care of some house projects. Hopefully before the end of the year I'll buy the MS2 and FMIC, then things should come together pretty quickly.

Sounds like the same story I've heard from everyone else (except Dan himself, of course...). Honestly I don't remember if I re-cut the TPS wire or not, I went through so much troubleshooting and wiring that the final status has escaped me now. I'll just have to poke around and look.

Speaking of, my Miler installation instructions NEVER mentioned cutting that wire, ever. In fact I ran NA for 5 years with it connected and never had an issue (that I know of). is it only on FI applications that it needs to be cut?

Well on top of the M30 I'll probably end up going the same M106 turbo route you're going with. But as far as the ix part of the build. The rear case of the M20 Getrag 260 will bolt onto the rear of the M30 g260 so thats the hard part figured out. As for the oil pan, I want to snag a M30 oil pan gasket and design a bolt flange piece on CAD and get it CNC'd. Then I need to snag a oil pan from a 525ix and diff off of eBay.de and cut the M50 bolt flange off and weld my custom M30 bolt pattern one on. I'll of course need to make custom motor arms and a custom oil pick up. I wanted to to use a e53 x5 oil pan, but the only diff ratios the x5 had were 3.64, 3.73, and 4.10 (also a very rare 3.07 for the Diesel in Europe) and I think they'll be to much for the M30. The e34 ix however uses a 3.34 and from my research a 3.46 is perfect for a M30 so I don't think the 3.34 will be that bad. I'll also need to do 525ix front half shafts which I'm not happy about.

That's going to be awesome. A fellow r3v member AndrewBird (see post at the top of this page) owns an e34 525iX touring, he may have some input on iX parts.

                            M30 OEM Turbo project

                            Update!

Since the m30 has the intake and exhaust on the same side of the motor, routing intercooler piping can be kind of wonky. A lot of guys will flip the throttle body to the other side, cutting a new hole for it and blanking off the old hole. For no particular reason, I decided I don't want to do that. And since the OEM intercooler isn't doing its job, I had to find something that would work with the strange piping. This led me to google image searching for "same side intercooler", which led me to this. Factory intercooler for Saab 9000/9-3 models, '99-'03.

I couldn't tell from the photos how big it was, and I couldn't find any posts that contained dimensions. But I figured, what the hell? I'll go yank one from a junk yard and try it out. So $20 later I had this in my garage:

Looks promising! 52mm tubes (same as the m106 bits), length, height and width all look good, let's test fit! Pull off Mtech valance:

And.... it doesn't fit. I didn't take any pictures, but it's essentially 3-4" too short (the core doesn't sit in the middle of the slots in the valance, it sits off to the left) and the mounting tabs on the metal valance interfere with the pipes. I could have cut and chopped the metal valance to make the pipes fit, but it still wouldn't be centered. Oh well, for $20 it was worth a shot.

But I did snag some boost pipes from the same Saab. Still a perfect 52mm size, plus one already has a bung for the BOV! Again, for $20, I can't complain; it's a lot cheaper than buying new tube and hose off fleabay or wherever.

I ordered this BOV because it fits the Saab piping, has great reviews, and allows me to go either recirc or atmospheric depending on my needs/wants. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/tb...1022/overview/
