Not sure if anyone else felt the heat wave but middle eastern people battle heat with heat. Some Turkish coffee and wafers

Then we work. Copper spray on the MLS headgasket.

Had to realign the rocker shaft arms but eventually got the head on.

After this we started looking for the nuts and washers but they weren't to be found. We blamed the heat and called it a day...

Went inside and ordered some other parts instead. I'll be back there in August and should have more heat but less distractions so hopefully the engine will be assembled and ready to drop in. Meanwhile, I'm getting him ready for a big purchase from Ireland engineering.

    Until then, stay cool

thanks everyone. We're both pretty excited to see it come together.

As usual, we made some progress and hit some hiccups, but thats why its called a project.

Good news is that we found we the nuts and washers for the ARP stuff. Was pretty nervous we lost them. Unfortunately I didnt bring my torque wrench with me so we couldnt torque the head down, but its ready to do on my next trip.

Last time, we placed a small order to get a few odds & ends. Still need to make that big purchase with Ireland, which Im hoping to get done very soon.

Heres a comparison of the old water pump bolts and the new ones that were included with the 02again trigger bracker

And heres a pic of the spacer installed. We needed this piece because the way the turbo mounts to the manifold, it was hitting the valve cover. I eyeballed and guessed we needed another inch. Luckily it was enough

                spacer_installed_zps6wxlee66 by 2mAn

The spacer worked perfect as we got the clearance over the valve cover we needed, but I discovered another problem. No idea how we can get the 4th nut & bolt to hold the turbo to the manifold.

Heres how it all looks somewhat completed

and finally, the painted engine bay eagerly waiting for the motor

                  nice work Simon.

Can you install the 4th bolt in the opposite direction?
lower the turbo assembly with the bolt already on, and lower that onto the spacer setup?
                  like this?
or is there not enough room to install a bolt from above?

^The bolt would be too long to drop in from above.

Use a piece of threaded rod long enough to use a nut on each end. put it in the hole then drop on the turbo and put a nut and (lock) washer on each end. Problem solved!

Nothing yet, I might be able to get some work done this weekend. We still need to place that big order with Ireland. I keep forgetting to bug him about it. It would be easier if I had his credit card... but probably more dangerous too haha

SUCCESS!! No time for anything else but we got this done.

I'm not the smartest when it comes to turbo but I think this Wastegate is welded shut, so we can remove it and we'll need an external, yes?

edit: deleted giant pic thats very similar to the pic of the welded wastegate above

Also, is there a place that I can buy the flange so we can start the downpipe? And is there a gasket that needs to go between the turbo? Newbie turbo questions, go easy on me

And we celebrate with some drank, Assyrian style
