Any reason you went with aluminum honeycomb instead of nomex?
Our floorboards are the same way, Unidirectional carbon PEEK over Al honeycomb, and we have a lot of corrosion problems, end up gutting some of the more important ones and replacing the core with Rohacell 110WF (foam).

I should mention that most of the corrosion originates from terrible edge filling practice or other features in the boards that corroded or disbonded beforehand.

It ended up a little over 10 pounds The one I took the mold off weighs 18 or 19 so at least there was some weight savings. If I get a chance to make another I don't think 5 pounds is an unreasonable goal while still being rigid enough. I added a lot of weight to the lip so that had some beef to be mowed off on the pavement. I got 99 excuses.

Are you talking about car floor boards? Yeah theres a lot of electricity flowing through that probably. I went with aluminum because I got it for free from work and this part is pretty much sealed off from the rest of the car. Im hoping I bonded the two halves well though otherwise I'll see corrosion too. As long as it stays sealed then it should be good. Nomex would have been a less of a gamble.

I'm starting a new page for all other composites related projects I'm going to make from here on out. Progress will be slow it's just a free time thing for now. It will be picture heavy so you don't have to read a damn thing! Mostly car stuff but some non-car stuff will appear here as well.

To kick this off I'm starting with my '88 bumpers. Starting with the rear since it's probably the world's most straight forward composites project and moving to the front later on since there's a tiny bit more going on with that one in terms of attachment. Planning on infusing these.

So, here I've added a good size flange, plugged all the holes, and applied some release wax. A few more wax coats and its ready for gelcoat.

Have you thought about making a mold for euro bumpers? Not that the metal ones are very heavy, but they rust and bend pretty easily. These would make good replacements for beat old ones.

If somebody sent me some euro bumpers I'd be glad to make a few sets (PM me). I'm doing these ones because they're from my car, and I kinda like then '88 US bumper look honestly. I'm back working on this project again on the weekends. Hopefully I'll have a mold soon.

Thanks for all the good words people!

Saw a few pics of the red car at Monterey, looks like somebody in the 70's made that spoiler! Good job man.
