Oh yeah. I wasn't going to but the curiosity was killing me as to the bearing condition. Then I discovered this place called Calico Coatings that could recoat the shells, mains and rods, for around $130 or so. Seeing as each bearing HALF is over $20 each from BMW, it was a no brainer. Hopefully have the shells back early next week then I can start re-assembly. Also still waiting on my main cap bolts. Stretch bolts. I would have gone studs but the bolts are half the price and these bottoms are goddamn stout. Don't see the point if I use new bolts.

I can't wait. This thing is gonna be so nice.

I think I'll get a touring next, not a fan of the iX to be honest.

The main bearing were not that expensive,, as oem,, but the rod bearing ,, i paid over 1000 US$ for them here in Iceland from the dealer,, and they are ONLY MADE for BMW... damn expensive

STUDS,,,,, do it,,, absolutely,,, even the M70 is a high quality alu block, i would recommend studs,, use the M50/52 same length as oem M70 bolts

You're talking about the headstuds or main bearing cap studs?

              Eyeballing headstuds as we speak....

                Yes ,, ARP head studs,,,,

i think nothing is more annoying then a bolt lose its grip because of bad threads

So looks like the head bolts for the M50/2 are M10x95mm. Bolts for the M70 are M10x110mm.

I found that the bolts for the M54 are M10x110mm, so since both the M54 and the M70 are aluminium blocks I should go for the M54 stud kit, x2.

AFAIK,,,, the M52 bolts share the same number as M70,,, at least on the package i got from Victor Reinz,,

Got my recoated bearings today. Man they are pretty!

Only hold up for getting the bottom together is the main bearing cap bolts from BMW.....something happened between here and Germany and they are trying to track them down now....

Don't blame him, USPS has been stupid for long before him..

Hell, we got Hartge parts that are somewhere between Kent, Washington and Portland, Oregon. But they won't do sh*t until it's been TWO WEEKS.

                              Lol, I'm being facetious.

It's apparently a FedEx thing. I ordered from BMW. So I guess we'll see how it shakes out. I'm dead in the water until those damn bolts get here, unless I wanna pay 2x as much a get main bearing studs....which I don't.
