10lbs of HF ceramic media, run wet with enough water to cover the media/parts, and about 8oz of token purple cleaner. The cleaner is both a solvent and a lubricity agent that increased the final finish.

I also took about 20% of the media and laid it on my driveway peening them with a hammer breaking each 1" tri star into smaller shards to maximize its effectiveness getting into nooks and crannies, helped a lot.

I know OEM kit comes with tube of Hylomar to seal rubber boots. What about the inner joint cap? Is there a gasket as on some BMW's or hylomar should be used there too? I think Bantley calls to seal those so grease won't leak out with Curil 2??

Outer boot replaced, clamped, inner boot clamped in place, inner CV blown apart and cleaned ready to be reassembled with fresh grease.

Inner and outer kits each came with a tube of Hylomar. 4 small tubes total. Just 1 tube was plenty to seal them all IMO.

So those cups do get sealed with Hylomar, not just rubber boots, right? Just trying to understand how to rebuild those properly.

Correct, they seal around the circumference of the CV with hylomar.

                  Just read this whole thread.

My brain will need a day to recuperate.

                  Simply fantastic.

I am now on the hunt for another E30. Too much inspiration!

Sorry for the lack of updates, I'm largely on hold awaiting the chassis to come out of paint and well.. the paint shop hasn't been doing shit. I've been put off and put off for months, and the car is becoming an object to stand boxes up against and pile around.

I put a full stop of the work after the shops metal guy got lazy and wrecked the new front core support, which needs to be removed and replaced with another new one to the tune of $400+ and the wasted time/labor.

I did pickup the exhaust manifold and catalyst mid section from the coater today. I had it done in silver cerakote rated for 2,000F and highly corrosion resistant.

I also picked up the second batch of items from the platers. I'm again pleased with the vast majority of the work except the damn rear calipers which have uneven coverage and are peppered with black speckles. I'm going to bring all 8 calipers back to them and ask them to redo them. I've got entirely way too much time into preparing two full sets of calipers I won't use due to imperfections.

The exhaust looks great. If this were my car it would be stored in a climate controlled bubble to keep those finishes pristine.
How did they wreck the support?

Sucks about the core support. Why aren't they paying to fix their mistake?

It was almost a year ago that I watched that video and decided that's what I wanted to do with my life! About two months later I opened Sublime Surfacing and absolutely love what I do.

The results are amazing and never cease to impress.

This is a fantastic build thread and will have me returning to it as often as I watch the G500 rebuild in Seattle.
