    2017.

Hate to begin a post with work... But that is all I really do. But some inspiration first. I'm not sold on Lachs, but its growing on me!

Its odd, I still lust for Bronzit... Lachs though is a New Chapter.

I originally had AKG Twin cam mounts in the car. But questioned their durability with not being a thru bolt design like nice E36 mounts. I also worry about the durability of soft poly VS the harder stuff. GROUP N RUBBER IS AWESOME, BIMMERWORLD TRACK MOUNT ARE AWESOME! These are the Condor mounts. These mounts suck. The bolt just swivels inside while trying to torque them down. If you analyze their design, Its just a joke.. I have had the "Group N" akg 80A AKG mounts fail on an E46 destroying the headers... THESE ARE NOT GROUP N JUST POLY.. With the limited or short time in looking for proper mounts I wanted (A GOOD HARDER RUBBER) I just put the AKG mounts back in in hopes I wont be to harsh on them... Just its a good feeling to do it once and forget about it.

Testing the fitment of Active Autowerke Old style Headers E36 S50 S52. The engine in the E30 has to set 1-2 inches lower. Stock E36 header assembly are just too tall. DONT DO IT.
The previous set up I tried was the Turner / EVO shorties for E30 fitment with a Bimmerworld Y pipe, Same scenario, Any heady will need an E30 fitment lower section. But I am assuming now with the S54 Pan and subframe setup. I can run which ever headers I want.

I have to say, It was an exciting moment!

S54 Oil filter housing being installed, With provisions for oil cooler and a port for remote mount Oil pressure sender. This unit came of a race motor with the thermostat delete, I had to dig in my parts bin for some thermostat and bits to reinstall. Car must be warmed up before hammering down!
June 2017 by Zachary Ketring, on Flickr

Another bolt on piece that I hope would work was the E36 exhaust. NOT EVEN CLOSE! Had to cut in a few spots to make it work. I really do like the E36 exhaust hangers with upgraded M reinforcements. Below is the E36 Bimmerworld Race exhaust 3" using magnaflow mufflers.

    August 2015

My buddy began to loose interest in his project E30, previously had got bitten by an E30 bug after riding in my 325IX years before. (Ground Controls, Megasquirt, Recaro srds, Yum!). Originally he was thinking his E36 was the way at to go, only to find out it had to much cancer. It made sense now to move the drive line over to a newly acquired E30. While he was in Virginia and we were in Kentucky we helped him when we and how ever we could.

That is when this 1987e Auto started its second life. As most, it had to be turbooooo, IMO lucky it hadn't gone that far, but good things came with that. Z3m coupe rear bits and Ground control Suspension.

We stayed in touch being a few states away, He kept me up on progress and I would help remotely when I could. But then other hobbies came into life and the car begun to sit.

I've been E30less for one I could drive on street or daily for a few years then. The current ride was a 318Ti that has been my daily for years, (and a shared 87is that me and another good friend have been building into a racecar for a few years)... The 318Ti really is a do all car. Collage, being fired, travel, starting a career and a shop. Although I have replaced almost everything on my cars, the 318Ti is very reliable and a fuel sipper. Nimble and fun on the street, but not quite fast enough to get tossed in jail.n
    .
TC01 - My Code name. Track Car Number One

I never seen the car in person, But after a going a few years with out an E30, I knew I was overdue..

My buddy not knowing all the BMWs in detail talked me into the car being Bronzit. I lusted for another Bronzit, that feeling of reliving your first car dreams. I just assumed the picture was bad and yes this really could be bronzit, Is it?..

    My First E30

Before My 325iX I had, my first car was an 86 325e, Bronzit. It had had gone less noticed as the ix was the focus. And eventually sold, but more and more I modded the ix, the more and more I realized that RWD is where it was. I missed my E. Bronzit and all.

    Aug 2015 - The Photo wasn't bad...

    Photo sent pre sale

At the time I was doing crew work for Bimmerworld, So instead of flying out to VIR I though I would take a little adventure on a Greyhound, 1st stop E30. I couldn't make it fast enough! and then there it was, I couldn't turn back, I considered....

    THIS CAR WASN'T BRONZIT.
    Upon First sight

I wanted to turn back and do a REDO. No back up plan... No where to go.. Except to take the E30 route out, Its not what I wanted, but it was.. . Almost every bolt was loose, the tires lost air on the way. Definitely spent a day making sure everything was tight! On the way out my buddy topped the tank. Here I learned that I was in for quite a project, Fuel started pouring onto the ground, lucky just for a little bit.... untill the next fill up, you would learn the threshold....

Rust was a bit more then I expected, along with the holes, the holes.. This was my roughest E30 experience. (Wasn't that bad)

    2nd stop, VIR!

    The journey home:

    Quite exciting, Quite not comfortable...
    Handling was terrible and twitchy
I was amazed at the water that would fill the floor board from a rain storm
    1 speaker - No antenna

No gas station had enough paper towels to soak up the angry ocean which swept up the floor boards. The hood pins were an embarrassment like when your significant other wears that outfit you don't like. But It would roast the tires off in the sketchiest way! The comfort seat though in mild condition reminded me its going to be ok, Be comfortable. Nothing will fall off, you will not be stranded.

    Notes:
Carpet can make your car more water tight- This one, had none
Eccentrics don't mean it'll handle right

    Work In Progress.

I am hoping I can back log all the previous dates up to when acquired the car. May take a few weeks... Years... I acquired the car August 2015, So I have some catching up to do! Running a BMW shop FULL time changes priories, but since the E30 has been running again it has got me motivated to keep at it!
