Go On!... tell us more. What color is it *supposed* to be? Hard to tell lol

Project Texas Holdem as moatilliatta named it is coming along. The car runs/drives under its own power now, which is great. I found some better than average 14" weaves for it and put only the best Petlas Imperium 205/60s on it.

The only part that I used from the original drivetrain was the power steering pump, and on first start it puked all of its fluid from the shaft seal, so I put a different pump on it and we're good to go.

I also found a decent but not perfect dash to replace the atrocity that was in there.

I pulled the cluster apart to investigate why it had a 5k tach, and it's just a full eta cluster someone slapped in there. Wrong fuel gauge, tach, coding plug, etc. Par for the course.

The manual early sedan I bought on a whim wouldn't shift into 2nd or 4th after the shift selector fell off on the highway. I pulled the driveshaft to get a good look at what was going on, and the shift selector shaft inside the transmission was bent. I (very carefully) was able to bend it back, and we now have all 5 gears.

The bonus was finding out that the input shaft nut was hanging on by quite literally its last thread, and someone *just* put a guibo on it. Good thing they paint marked the bolts, lol.

I'm going to throw some end links and some dampers on it and sell it, as I recently lost a bunch of storage space so I have to stop treating e30 purchases like they're on amazon

After a couple months of R&D, the first prototype is on the car. Stoke is high. Header is stepped......thrice

Hmmmmm lets say $500/yr max out of pocket. I will also provide used hoopty parts at cost for hoopty timeshare.

    Thanks man!

    ------

After putting the partout feeler out there at the worst time of the year for selling stuff, there wasn't enough interest to justify parting the white car.

So I put a new engine harness on the car, fuel pump, both fuel senders, oil level sender, and several other parts that weren't good and..... she runs! I totally forgot fuel pumps are polarity specific and had it wired backwards for the first few attempts. Fixed that and she fired right up.

Cooling system needs to be buttoned up, the power steering pump that came with the car was bad like quite literally every other part on the car, and i'm sure i'll find 6000 other things that are wrong.

I noticed a burnt spot on the fuse box lid above fuses 20-21 (which are aftermarket and new) so I'm sure I'll have to redo the radio harness and put a blower motor in it at the very least.

Through the swamp we trudge on.

I even had to change the master cyl due to it being filled with thick rust and reservoir seals in the name of #itjustran and #passengerballjointisalittlenoisy

Only if you promise to love and to cherish it in sickness or in health

When I get bored of it you can just take it to drive until you get bored of it. I offered the vert to JakeM to drive to cure his 02 sadness but he said he needed his own hoopty

idk why we don’t all have hoopties that we trade back and forth

It’s actually pretty dang good for just over a grand, compared to the blissfully/optimistically rust free BAT e30s that have never been exposed under the carpet or behind the passenger side trunk paneling

rust free? Nah. Good enough to enjoy safe and dry as a daily for years to come? Sure is

If a man never learns to align expectation and reality, he will always be stuck in the purgatory that lies in between them

Excellence/perfection is a beautiful and necessary thing, but I’m learning that it’s relative and pliable

“good enough” is a phrase I’ve gotten quite comfy with over the past few years and it’s opened up a whole new world of experiences and enjoyment I was once blind to

idk if i have a lean burn tune in me but yeah that's the goal. Just going to do a universal standalone with rusefi and splice it into an already hacked motronic 1.3 harness I have

When I get a new project I think about how i can use some of the junk I have lying around to make something. This idea seems like good clean fun. 2009 style

I feel like a nicely sorted/stock-ish but very imperfect daily would be good for your soul

I had the idea to keep the m20b27 in this car and convert it to a motronic 1.3 harness/ICV, add an m20b25 throttle body (which would include opening up the b27 intake manifold for it), putting m20b25 exhaust and manifolds on it, and putting a cheap standalone in it to do something different
