    thank you! she's coming along

    ------

The question of the day is, how does one turn down an $1100 running/driving manual e30 that isn't rusty?

White iS is slowly becoming less hoopty.

Car is back to being a roller with a new fuel system!

Dropped the subrame assembly and did stainless lines f&r, sub bushings, TA bushings, billys, bavauto springs, enlinks f/r, new fuel tank, fuel filter, all new rubber lines for the fuel filter and pump, etc. Finished off the front end with new e36 tie rods, e36 centered rubber control arm bushings, new control arms, and rebuilt e36 rack. Please pretend you don't see the generic hose clamp on the tank return line, i ran out of genuine clamps

Motor will be ready to drop in once I throw on the exhaust manifolds tomorrow. Shifter linkage rebuilt as well.

    Things are coming along.

seller didn't realize it was a 325iS, so finding that out was redeeming i suppose.

haha yeah it is definitely getting worse. As a wise man once said, "The Plot Thickens"

Onward and upward man. Ready to put this kind of shit behind me. GF thinks i have a second GF because I haven't stopped working on the car at the warehouse since it got here

hooptie for now! non-hooptie status hopefully established sooner than later

yep- the goal was to not have a big project with this one so i paid up for what i was told was a good one which didn't turn out to be a good one

it's okay, the only local shop that will work on e30s charges $195/hr, and I'm doing this one for -195/hr, so its all good

maybe instead of self employed taxes this year i'll file as a charity

in other news, once i dropped the tank tonight the 2005 petrol (now varnish) smelled so bad i had to put it outside #justran

And on todays episode of "just recently broke a timing belt and was taken off the road", we have a rotten fuel filler neck and fuel tank from 2005 fuel.

Oh, and the remanufactured sticker on the steering rack turned out not to be a good thing!

I jest, but this situation makes me sick to my stomach.

E36 rack in and the rest of the front suspension assembled

Nothing bad to see behind a fuel filler hose that looks like this for sure

I scooped a bit of this with a screw driver and the rot is thick. I don't have any good late model tanks because i'm in the midwest so I had to order a spectra tank.

    This whole situation is terrible.

I have been waiting to post about the aforementioned car because I didn't know how to go about doing so. I'll keep it brief- the car didn't show up anywhere close to as described, and this is the last time I'll purchase a car sight unseen. I'm not convinced the seller is a bad guy, I just think people have a dangerously ignorant, naive and optimistic perspective of what they are selling, and have nothing to lose, while a trusting buyer has everything to lose, at least in this case, anyway. The car is solid where it counts, but is worth less than half of what I paid in the condition it arrived in.

Okay, now that that's over with.... we trudge forward.

The motor in the car wasn't useable like I had hoped, so I built up another 2.7L (you know the deal: 2mm shaved deck e crank/rods, i pistons). Had a new head ready to go with new cam/rockers/springs. Made the two one and got that ready to drop in. Pulled the old block/trans and got the new motor ready to go in after servicing the transmission with some MTL, a shift selector seal, and a shifter rebuild kit. I have a 91oct Squid chip on the way for the 2.7 since I want to keep the car on a stock ecu, M50 injectors.

Everything rubber in the engine bay is in need of replacement. So all hoses will get replaced once the new engine is in the car. Currently waiting on motor mounts because somehow I didn't have spares, and have to clean the Texas dirt out of the engine bay before the engine goes in.

Onto the rest of the car....... this thing was supposed to be a "ran and drove not too long ago" type of deal, which in my experience in buying over 50 E30s at this point, means that the car will be at least someone mechanically preserved. However, there's a last inspected sticker on the windshield from 2005, which matches the condition of when it appears to have last been on the road. Every hose, piece of rubber, etc etc is all shot. Brake lines collapsed, etc.

Someone was kind enough to tow the car via the tie rods at some point in the past. The suspension/brakes are absolutely hammered.

I have new control arms, solid centered bushings, tie rods endlinks, bavauto springs, dampers, etc that are all going on the car now. The steering rack is labeled "remanufactured", and I'm hoping that is a positive thing.

Interior I thought was nice, it had a dash cap siliconed on, a 5k tach poorly installed in the cluster, old shite radio shoved in the HVAC panel without wiring or radio cage, clips and screws are missing or replaced with drywall hardware, you get the jist. I'm tackling all of this at once so i have some variation in my workflow.

Anyway, that about sums it up. The 17" wheels are hideous and don't fit, so I'm seeking 14" replacements, if anyone local has a nice set.
