this was my original plan, but when I calculated the cost in terms of both dollars and time, it ended up being cheaper to just buy a rack: https://saferacks.com/products/storage-bin-rack-copy

headsup, though. These racks require a bin slightly bigger than standard Home Depot ones.

More comfortable and less cold? But how do you keep it clean from oil, coolant, road debris, etc?

Precisely, makes me actually wanna work on my car if I have a comfy carpet to lie on and it makes the place feel more cozy, it's like working on your car in your living room! That is the downside, it is a grease trap but I just lay a few moving blankets on top, eventually it'll be too greasy but I got it for free so might as well use it!

I would just lay some carpet down on a creeper at that point.

We scored a bunch of boxes of FLOR carpet tiles that I intend to use “workshop” section once I set up toolboxes/workbenches.

See but it's all about the feeling and aesthetic of it, while everyone else sweeps their garage, I vacuum my garage

Probably helps with audio too. Mine is very echoy.
And I imagine it does a bit for heat loss through the slab.

Carpet in my garage would be like 50% rust at this point...

I needed the density a 32-box rack offered (could only have it in the one corner) and needed it to be on wheels for access to the the house water shutoff and a couple other things.

The other thing about the build is it's designed to work with all the major yellow-and-black 27-gal bins (they're a bit different for each retailer)

Yeah the racks I've been split on, pretty sure it's still the route I want to go, or more solid racking than what I have a few of.
And with everything I'm doing, I want it to be movable and can take it with me to the next place.
Regardless, I need to buy yet even more bins, throw things in bins, then organize and purge stuff from bins. Endless cycle.
The plan is nothing on the floor, some larger yet lighter items will need to go ontop of a rack/bin storage or within it.

I think mine are the Vevor ones, but not sure because I bought them used. I think ones that don't have rotation and wheel bearings might be annoying to use, but these work well.

I moved my e30 against the wall to work on my D4 and I have so much more room for activities now.
Dig, yeah one of the e30s is pushed against one side but it is ... covered in parts ontop, inside, and underneath it, and... all around it.
I need to move it now to the other side so the side it is on can be the bin wall.
I didn't need the car (re-acquired), and it's going to sit for some time. Just silly.
My neighbor has some I'm going to borrow, unsure what type he has.
I've been thinking about pulling the trigger on the (newer-ish) Daytona ones from HF.
They are just copies of that other brand.

This is another take, some of my bins are probably any sort of recommended weight, and a solid shelf to sit on might be a smarter play...

BTW, big fan of Magicplan, an app that uses your phone camera to scan and create plans.
Been using it for ideas of things for a few years. Just the free version. It can help visualize a space.

Sloppy idea of two of the 4x4 27 gallon bin (shelf) holder to one side.
Some workspaces on wheels, new toolbox... and no clutter of any kind, what a dream.

**** Unsure if I resized these "e30s" to their actual dimensions or not now that I'm looking at it, maybe....
