Its the sale from private person to private person that does not require a NICS check. This can be done as long as the owner and seller are from the same state. And the sale can take place pretty much anywhere, not just a gun show.
In California, a person must go thru a background check and 10 day waiting period and present a Handgun Safety Cert even with person to person private transactions.

I went to a gun show a while back and some thugs from the hood went to buy some POS like a Lorcin/Jennings pistol back when they were still in business.

The thugs thought they could just walk in, pay cash and walk out with a firearm.

When informed that they had to go thru a background check, 10 day wait and take a test to prove safe firearm handling knowledge, they were shocked.

Too bad. I was hoping they would buy the Lorcin/Jennings and the slide stop would break and the slide would hit them in the grill when they fired it.

    California has stupid gun laws.

A friend of mine and I were at the pistol range and we both shoot Beretta 92's. (Among other firearms)

I let him use one of my 15 round mags, which is a felony.

Anyone who owns a gun should be required to respect it for what it is. Likening them to spoons or pencils only makes others think you're oblivious to the amount of responsibility it takes to own a gun. Stick to arguments concerning crime and personal protection.

Guns have lots of other purposes than killing, such as target shooting, collecting, restoring, etc...

Target shooting to become more efficient at killing? Sure, you can collect or restore them, but guns aren't like beanie babies that are useless and only exist to be put on a shelf. They were originally made with the intent to cause lethal harm, plain and simple..

You should acknowledge and respect that, and not use arguments comparing guns to everyday household objects to try and downplay their dangers (like others have done). It doesn't help the cause. That's all I'm saying... nothing more.

^^ I wish you lived closer and I would take you target shooting. I would introduce you to something that is much more than just practicing to kill. Long distance shooting is more about physics and geometry then practicing killing.

Oh and its still an Olympic sport.

I take it that comment was directed towards me right. Have you ever tryed skiet shooting? or long distance? like Vdubbin said. Its fun and challenging and its not making you better at killing. You should try somthing before you knock on it.

Skeet shooting is still target practice. The more you practice skeet shooting, the better you get at shooting moving targets such as clay pigeons, birds and even humans. Skeet shooting is most definitely making you better at killing.

I dont think I have ever seen a person flung through the air like a clay pigeon. Its more competition besides homles he was refering to the killing of people I dont think birds come under that. What is wrong with shooting birds if you plan on eating it?

I actually go target shooting with my dad every once in a while, so I get the "sporting" aspect behind it. Just because I'm having fun, doesn't mean I'm not getting a lot more proficient at using that weapon to deal deadly force. (same reason why police and military do it.) I'm sure the sniper that killed random people a few years ago, had fun applying physics and geometry at the range, before deciding to go on his rampage. (I'm not against shooting ranges for responsible people, just showing their innate purpose.)

To say guns weren't made to inflict deadly harm, is like saying cars weren't meant to drive, because I know a guy who just buys them to look at (or "collect" if you want to get fancy). It just sound delusional to me, even as a gun advocate. I was always taught to respect guns as lethal weapons, before I thought of them as play toys (compared with spoons in terms of danger, in earlier posts). The more you convince the public that you believe that, the better off gun advocates will be, IMO

Yeah wasn't that sniper ex military? So the government taught him to kill.

I am going to do you a favor......I think you were joking ;)

The MSNBC edit is messed up.....FNC did the same thing for eight years and was created in 1996 to counter the 'clinton media'. btw for those interested Roger Ailes amongst other fnc management used to be execs at MSNBC. So both of these channels are playing the same tricks, it just matters whether its an elephant or jackass in control.

I have never seen Fox News play the race card like MSNBC.

As to the shooting skeet, "its a way to practice moving targets". Ask Dick Cheney. 7 shot does not kill, even at 20 yards. 7 shot or 8 shot is the ammo used in clay shooting or bird shooting. I would love to see you sling a shotgun at a moving target doing 30 mph+ and hit him with a slug.
