What was supposed to come out of this other than getting people into new cars that had no business in them? The sales arent sustainable, no one is going to go out tuesday and buy a car after they missed out on the free money, which means all jobs created by this are probably going to be laid off before they start.

Failed? Dealerships have reported nearly half a million sales due to the cash for clunkers program. If their goal was to sell cars, I'd hardly call that a failure.
Say what you want about the program. I have my reservations about it too. But the goal was to sell cars, stimulate the auto industry and get older, less efficient cars off the road. It did accomplish all 3 of those goals.

it was a fail because half the people that went out and bought new car probably shouldnt have bought them but they aren't using money to pay off debt, rather they are just digging themselves a deeper hole.
then again it america who the fuck cares its all about having the newest/latest shit and having a better pile of junk in your driveway than your neighbor.
the government isn't helping people, they are just making everyones problems worse.

Agreed. I would have rather seen this program enacted than the loans that were given to Chrysler and GM earlier this year.Failed? Dealerships have reported nearly half a million sales due to the cash for clunkers program. If their goal was to sell cars, I'd hardly call that a failure.

I totally understand this. I would have rather the administration skipped their naive, power-hungry piggy-bank robbing asses straight into the sea, but considering that's slightly more likely than h0lmes taking a shit on Obama's desk for visual refernce to the quality of leadership he has brought to our nation, I'll take what two-sided backwards benefits I can get, instead of letting my pot-dealing neighbor collect welfare on my taxes and then brag to me about his new GSX-R and whatever esle he bought with his ill-gotten funds.
F*CK.
