Oh I see it, NJ is goin to be the next California! The funding forsomething as large as federalized heathcare needs to be planned carefully.
I think that reallocated funds can cover something liek this from our budget. I dont know where from but the removal of services for illegal immagrants would be a good start then the legalization and taxation of weed and maybe federal run works projects for power and communications.
I'm really not sure were, what I do know is that american people dying everyday from curable diseases and injuries because of a lack of proper health care is a larger issue.88 325ic ~~~> Rusty and ugly

Needless to say the arbor plate slipped out from the crank and my finger was crushed....
So now im about 3 weeks out of work, no medical and not alot of cash. I went to the hospital anyway because I was bleeding like a stuck pig. They tell me I MUST have Xrays and some stitches. I refuse the Xrays after learining that the cost for 3 exposures without insurance would be around $4000. The doc stitches me up and I leave. I'm such a dumbass for assuming the low cost of the procedure
3 weeks later I get the $3700 bill for emergencgy room treatment and 4 (FOUR) stitches.
Tell me how exactly that this shit is ok? It isnt! I worked hard my whole life, never been out of work, hut myself once and bingo im fucked. There are pleanty of HARD WORKING people that would benefit from this. And to be honest im willing to spend more money out of every current paycheck to grant this for people.
I pay for my current insurance plus copays and its not cheap, to be honest I dont think its being managed well.
Healthcare is one of the only industries where pricefixing and elevated costs of supplies (read gouging for 4 stitches) is legal.
I would have grabbed my bottle of instant glue that I have in the shop fridge and glued that shit shut and got on with my day. I have a fucking great insurance and hate going to the ER ( I'd have to visit the wife unit who works there ;))

Now, if you want to revamp the system to make it work better you would/should take a whole different approach (which the dems are ignoring). For starters, insurance companies are exempt from antitrust laws. Nix that. Then, work with states to unify regulation. That would allow individuals to shop across state lines for another provider with a more competetive plan. Right now you cant do that because they might not be able to provide a specific coverage mandated by the state. Then impact cost curves by limiting medical malpractice suits, there are soo many frivolous ones.
Then, and this would be the least popular because its the most painful. Make health insurance individual, just like all other forms of insurance. What that would do is make it portable. You pick a plan and its yours regardless of who you work for. THe reason its unpopular is because it would appear MUCH more expensive when, in reality, its only a little more expensive.
The reason is work plans get a small discount from being bought in bulk but most of it is just rolled into compensation. You enroll for their plan and 80% of it is part of your compensation and then you just pay a little bit based on how much coverage you need.
The other reason personal plans would be unpopular is because it would require personal accountability. That is great for someone like myself, who takes care of themselves. But morbidly obese alcoholics want/need people like me to subsidize their overconsumption.Last edited by Ryan Stewart; 03-11-2010, 04:47 PM.Im now E30less.

BTW, with respect to your high bill. Did you go talk with their finance dept? They set up that high pricing structure to get some leverage when dealing with asshole insurance companies like mine.
Insurance companies never pay the whole bill. They will always setup agreements to negotiate it down. Most of that high price is just to give the hospital the opportunity to negotiate down but still make money.
Well, that and its to cover the extra cost of broke as motherfuckers like harrypotter who dont pay their bills. BTW, they will fuck your credit.Im now E30less.
