These are the main reasons for me for a separate political section. The political posts bring the fun down on otherwise great threads. You can say 'ignore it', but fuck that, they are threadjacks. In the same way that political threads are an Off Topic sectionjack. Its time for a quarantine.

Wait wait wait.. I'm confused. The "political temper tantrums" are getting old, right? Why does anyone that doesn't want to read about political views click on them? Why do they then post in them? Why not ignore them and let them fail? Anyone that holds this opinion obviously feels better than anyone that posts a political thread and thus wants to (watch what I do here...) segregate them for being "different" or "stupid". Why is that exactly? This is the Off-topic lounge. If you want to SOLELY read about E30's, by all means, there's a bunch of other forums and sub-forums on www.r3vlimited.com. To complain about people voicing their opinions or argueing and then turn to argueing about it is really ironic and frankly, comical. I applaud you guys for voicing your opinion on the matter but in doing so you've done exactly what you're "protesting". Heh, to even call for a sub-forum to make the "10 people" (oddly more people post in them, most of those for a sub forum post in them) correlates that you think only your opinion is valid here in Off-topic and no one elses is. You should join a Church that Protests "Fags" at a funeral for a Veteran...

Who wants a Sub-Sub-Political Forum for all the guys that don't want to read about politics or opinions. In fact, to avoid anyone complaining we should just ban anyone with an opinion or anything non-e30 related. Sound good?

Grow a pair guys and get over yourself. Be an adult and don't click if you don't want to read.

Because the BS inside spreads out of the "politics threads" and becomes a bludgeon to attack people in other threads.

These "discussions" always bring in certain types of people, and that's the very specific reason most forums choose to compartmentalize those who wish to "discuss" such issues.

THIS I agree with and 100% think is stupid, immature and inappropriate. For example, I disagree with Lee on a number of things. I've flipped him some shit and vise versa, but I respect the man, his work, his product and his (most of the time ;)) civility.

Question though... how would having a Political Sub-Forum stop this?

It's annoying just seeing topic titles for political threads, especially when it's like 1/3 of the topics on the page. Seriously, you can fuck off with your political threads, this is a car forum, go cry somewhere else about Obama. At least create a separate section for all this stuff, call it the Crybabies corner or something

So, you very obviously think that your opinion and "comfort" are more important? And, HOW DARE ANYONE have a political thread that YOU HAVE to look at! What makes you so special, exactly? By voiceing your opinion here, you've cried about others "crying". 'Eh?

Anyone who spams their political agenda outside of the specified forum should get a swift kick to the nuts.
I try to come in and lurk, but all I ever see is how people hate Politicians/Their policies, or inside jokes about how gay everyone is.

The above has nothing to do with Political Agenda spaming. It has to do with people not being civil to each other by what BraveUly said as to why there should be a sub-forum. Because it bleeds into other threads and things. Creating a political sub-forum will not solve people being bitches to each other because they disagree.

In fact, there's a fairly strict policy on thread shitting but, get this, it still happens regularly.

Basically the theory is that we will have poo flinging monkeys, but you should still put them in a cage so they can have fun flinging poo at each other. It works well in other forums.

Why do you feel that everyone should be subjected to your political threads? Off topic should be stupid shit, not internet politicians talking about they know how to run this country from all the experience they have working their $11/hr job for the past 30 years.

Maybe have a "Political Mod" (censer) whose job it is to remove any and all political crap until we as (purportedly) adults can learn to talk about politics in a more appropriate place?

Maybe even have them have the ability to ban those that continue to yap about political bullshit on a goddamn BMW forum?

Firstly, I want to make one small point in response... what political thread have I started? I enjoy the debate and on several counts have made strides to make it civil and truly understand where opposiving views other than mine are coming from.

Secondly, I fail to see where anyone is "subjected" to anything they don't "subject" themselves to by clicking. I didn't get the memo that anyone was required to click on anything on this forum. If I missed this, please, correct it and point out where I am required to click. And how. And when.

I haven't voiced that I think anyone should be subjected to anything. The fact is you're here by choice. This site is also run by people we all respect but ultimately, this is not a democracy. My original point was that by making a Poll about whether or not we should have a political sub-forum, and the ensueing tears from many a people for it, was sort of ironic as they've just voiced a political opinion about others voicing their political opinions.

Sorry, Luke, but I have to disagree. It's Off-Topic Lounge. Pre-owning my latest BMW's, I never visited this section of r3v. There was no point in my opinion. Trying to become more a part of the BMW community, I've posted (a lot) more frequently here and other places. We're not a porn forum, but we have a nudes section in Off-Topic. Why nudes instead of Politics or Religious debates. Why "Drunk and Stupid" instead? These are honest questions I'm curious to hear points on.

Ultimately, you can't make a sub-forum for every individual's opinions. Nor has anyone brought up a point that will "solve" anything. I see nothing wrong with the political threads with the exception of E-toughness (which I've been guilty of in the past and have worked to correct). There's a huge lack of respect all around. From everyone. This thread is proof.

Robrez (I think that's his name) and I had a run in. I over reacted to his lack there-of respect and view points. I PM'd him shortly after we exchanged several words and told him I over reacted. I was a man about it, owned my fault and apologized. Everyone needs a dose of respect for others.

Making a Political Sub-forum wont solve the issue at the heart of the matter.

So it isn't within your capacity to NOT click on a thread title?

The topic of a car forum is cars. Off-topic is everything not cars. The idea is you click on thread titles that interest you and avoid or ignore the ones that don't.;)

If the issue truly is civility, then it rests with the mods to warn people who abuse the terms of use by employing personal attacks to try to make their point. That's what moderators are s'posed to do!

Of course, if the mods really enforced the rules, several here would be likely be rendered speechless...
