Yeah, that's one of the local AutoX guys car.

I went and test drove the Mazdaspeed 3, gotta say pretty impressive for wrong wheel drive. Turn-in is better than the Z and the way turbo spools up makes it feel faster in town, the Z still has the advantage on the highway. Going to try to drive some other cars this weekend.

Not completely sold on the Speed 3, but damn is it an impressive car for the money.

What was it that you didn't like in your 350z? Do you have an idea on what you might want in your next car?

I have a couple suggestions, some have already been mentioned but w/o know your priorities it's hard to suggest something.

I am going to suggest an 04 r32 if you can find it at that price....it's a great "total" package in terms of good DD and a fun car you can still autox/hpde in. There isn't much you need to mod on it really, other than pads/fluid/tires. And insurance on it is less than what it is for an sti/evo. Now obviously it's not as fast as the sti/evo as it's down on power at 240hp, but it makes up for it imho as it's such a sleeper.

Second suggestion would be a clownshoe, or even e46 m3 as they have come down in price.

R32 isn't terrible, a friend has one and let me drive it around... They're pretty comfy and it pulls decent, but it's not the fastest... I agree with Jean though, it's a nice mix

Mainly, I didn't think not having room would bother me, but we can barely go to the fucking grocery store in the Z.

I never realized how much stuff would fit in my old Monte Carlo until I didn't have it. SO I think I'd like a bit more useable space while still being fun to drive.

Interesting recommendation on the R32, I like VW styling/interior generally, but I'm put off by all the horror stories about reliability. Then buying a rare version of an unreliable car doesn't seem like something I want to screw with.

So I guess my three top priorities are, in no specific order:
                      1. Useable space (hatch or 4dr <- fuck that makes me feel like an old man)
                      2. Fun to drive
                      3. Reliable

The whole purpose behind ditching an E30 as a DD was so I wouldn't have to do anything other than change the fluids and do brakes now and then.

Pontiac G8 end thread 6spd 3 pedal gear box, rear drive, good reliability, fun to drive, 4 doors, Big trunk, reasonable mileage, handles reasonably well and killer power

Or another though is a 04-05 Caddy CSTV

same as above but a caddy the insurance will be insane due to the caddy badge though and the maintenance is some what more expensive too when the gadgets shit the bed.

Excellent suggestion sleeve, what's the used market for them look like? I remember hearing not many manuals were made/sold.

Couple more years of refinement and bit more powah and you'd have a budget M5.

It's an STI but more practical. You can always make it less practical, find a scooby shop to do naughty things to it.
Cooee cobber. You know there are STi versions of them?

Just needs less ride height, more brakes (4-pot WRX jobbies bolt on), more injectors (550cc STi top-feeds drop in) more swaybars and a half decent turbo to make it fun. Stock ECU can be flashed easily with Romraider, too :) Will chop the shit out of 90% of the E30s on here and do it in absolute comfort and practicality.

Problem with the Foresters is they're built on the Impreza floorpan so they can be a bit small inside. The rear-end of the Gen3/Gen4 Legacys kick their old trailing arm arse, too - the Leggys handle FUCKLOADS better than the Foresters. Stock vs stock, the Forester should be more fun to drive, though the GT Legacys can easily be modded to make as much power as any other STi/Subaru.

The STi is worth more than the sum of its parts at the end of the day. 6-speed, R180 rear-end, Brembos, half-decent engine... You just need to pick your market:

Legacy = family type car for someone wanting some refinement/space
Forester = family type car for someone wanting some fun with a little practicality
Impreza = people who want to go fast and who like cheap plastics

if you get a G8 and want some Holden bits (like HSV 6-pot Alcon brake kits) lemme know. You pay and I'll source/ship them for you. Everything I wrote about the Subarus I could write 3-4 times as much on the G8/Commodore. I is teh car nerd (kinda comes with the job, though)
