Dude I dont know how you are to work for, but your method of employment sounds awesome. I have a show up time, and I work till I get done for the day.
I try hard to create an environment that is pleasant to work in. Happy people care about their job and what they do. To top it off, he was going to fly down to the Rolls Royce owners meet the my brother. 4 days paid in Squaw Valley isn't too bad in my opinion.
Not sure if I'm going to replace the position or not. Just from this post, I've had 39 people inquire about it.

Sounds like you were more than fair with him.

When I did body/paint work I got paid $3.50 per flag hour. Some days it worked out ok money wise, other days (read summer months) I was happy to bring home $50 a week for a 40-50 hour week of waiting for work.

I even got a $7 pay check for a week once.

We had to supply our own tools and equipment too.

I would have killed for $15 an hour working on old cars instead of Chrysler products.

Glad I got out of that place though. They dropped the pay down to $1.75 a flag hour and have nowhere near as much work as they used to.

Its amazing how today's generation expects everything for nothing.

Now I'm always amazed when I hire somebody that they behave one way in the interviews, but as soon as theyre hired they start with the "Well, I'm not going to work this day, this day, and this day. I'll only work these hours on these days."

Last I knew, when you mark that you're available any time on any day on an application, and state that you're fine with anything in an interview thats exactly what it meant.

I've always thought when you are looking for work and finally get hired somewhere you're thankful for the opportunity and work your ass off.

I've never heard of an employer that allows you to dictate when you will and will not work.

where the hell were you working that you were pulling $3.50 a flag hour or was it 1962 when you were working?

i was pulling $22.50 a flag hour at the benz dealer doing collision and flagging 70 -80 hours a week without hacking. i was iCAR platinum certified, but still jesus that is pathetic!

Manheims Greater Phoenix Auto Auction. And I was also iCAR platinum certified. We all had to be because at that time the shop was also doing collision work for insurance companies.

This was about 5 years ago.

Body men got $9.00 per flag hour, Preppers got 3.50, but somehow I was still expected to do body work and paint.

Painters got 4.00 per flag hour, and buffers got 2.50.

The shop was set up more like a production line to get things out quick.

Most of what we did was just a panel here, or a panel there, but there were the occasional complete cars or major repairs.

Each painter (2) in a typical day could roll out 24 cars. If pushed they could do 30-40.

Now the guys that are still there are lucky to bring home 250-300 a week. Used to be pulling in 800-1000 when they were busy.

That blows. My first job I was making $3.35 an hour back in 1984. Isn't what they were paying way below min wage?

Oh yeah. I'm sure it was and is. Not sure how they get away with it.

Shit like this pisses me off. I'm 23 and can't find a job to save my life, but I see douchebags like this who don't want or need a job pull them out of their asses.

[QUOTE=StereoInstaller1;2704292]$15 an hour seems pretty decent for that kind of work. $32K/yr is pretty decent for a 22 year old single guy in Canby. I bet there are dozens of guys on R3V that would love that deal.

Finding people to work for you is easily the hardest part of owning a business...like you didn't already know that.

I earned 33k last year, I'm 23 and work at a body shop(painter).... And yea most people my age would like a job tht pays this much!
