Yep, the "everyone is a unique snowflake" culture is ruining the people my age and younger (I'm 29).

I just started my third job since the "official" beginning of the recession in late '07.

Voted: You did the right thing, I would have done the same.

Added: This country is going to shit and some asshat is not happy with $15/hr and a full time job. I hate to be a part of the new generation of the labor force (I'm 27) because it is staffed by a whole mess of these pussies. He had a job (I've been searching for 4 months for something decent while doing side jobs in construction) and he gave it up because he couldn't follow directions--the idiocy.

I'm continually amazed, in this economy, when young people can't even be satisfied to have a job that pays at least double the minimum wage..

            This!

If you take a look at how many jobs in this area are $15hr or more....let's just say there are far far more paying less than that. I know a lot of people that would be very happy with 15hr right now.

you dont get the federal millage reimbursement??? IIRC this year its 51 cents a traveled mile for business (thats well above just gas money unless you are driving a big block chevy loaded heavy or with a blower on it). I would be pissed as all hell if my employer wants me to use my car to make them money and not reimburse me my mileage and wear and tare on my shit.

If they only want to pay for fuel then give me a company car or a fuel card I can use for personal use as well. I am lucky that way I get both.

its like an apprenticeship it sounds like, hell that would be great if you would do 15 an hour cash money so uncle same can't get his hands in it. otherwise, it depends on the local economy

the way to do that is to 1099 the kid, that way the employer just pays the employee and the employee is responsible for sending in all his own taxes, including FICA and what not.

I can do it either way. He elected to pay his own taxes. I also give an allowance for health coverage.
I started off doing 356's and Jags and through hard work and word of mouth (I don't advertise), worked my way up to the cars I do now. We are known for quality and correctness of the finished product. I don't care how many hours he worked, it had to be quality work. That's why I got mad when I saw him using a 5" disk with 36 grit on an aluminum fender.

You are certainly justified in your anger, that's so incorrect it almost seems intentional. I hope you find the right guy to work for you.

Having very little post secondary education I'd jump on that job in a heartbeat. I'm currently a manager at a quick service restaurant and making 11-something an hour, working 40-45hrs a week, shift work, at any time they want to schedule me, including overnight shifts, I'd jump on this job and never let it go.

$15/hr is definitely enough to live off of and keep ahead here in socialist Canada (at least in the east) and it sounds like a fun job.
