2nd photo looks great. It's about time BMW got into a 4cyl turbo, it's a great option for most drivers who want a balance of performance and fuel economy. Most car companies these days are going this route.. look at the chevy cruze with it's 1.6t and a 6speed, hyundai's 2.0T, not to mention audi and vw continuing their development of petrol and diesel turbos.

Considering BMW's hybrid concepts, the i8 and the i3, both use small turbo engines (pretty sure 3cyl?), not surprised to see this technology carried forward into their new production cars.

don't get me wrong, I love a straight 6, but not everyone needs one.

New real photos. The front of the red one is very nice. At least they got their aggressive look back. The previous generation was awful. 4 cylinder turbo is awesome. I can't wait for the wagon version. 88 pounds lighter then the old version too.

    Here is the Mtech one

Why make a direct injection 3.0 6 n/a when you can have a direct injected 2.0 4 turbo that's better?

What I find kind of sad, is that in 2012, BMW is managing to pull 245 hp from a 2.0 turbocharged 4; when my 2002 WRX pulls 227hp from a 2.0 turbo 4 :/

I dont know what the MPG specs are on these F30s, but I can easily get 29mpg with a pair of clogged up cats in my downpipe..

Well thats with a list of mods + tune. I'm sure the future potential for these turbo BMWs is pretty high (or at least I'd hope so), but stock for stock those numbers are weak.

I wonder if they intentionally left it weaker so it wouldn't surpass the I6 that BMW has been using for so long..

^ yes, but how much tq do your motors make at 1200 rpm? That's pretty nuts if you ask me... I'm not sure what you're expecting?

And quicker, more fuel efficient, less weight...
258 torques at 1250rpm is friggin impressive. Looking forward to the first E30 swap if anybody ever figures out stand alone engine management for DI.

I'm not bashing it really, just wondering if BMW de-tuned it (HP ratings) to make the bigger motor sound more appealing (giving it more power & better 0-60 times)?

Basically, they did so poorly during Bangle/Honkeytonk era that they are phasing in mediocre designs that look good compared to the horrible ones they had before.

At least it looks like they are getting rid of the "sagging horse back" lines that ran down the profile. Outside of the stupid lights/grill section I think its an improvement on the older model. Too big though, at least too big for a coupe.
                              Im now E30less.

I believe you're correct there. Specially with the motors that have been made of late. It's more about selling the brand still. They could all make I4 motors producing 500+ HP but they have reliability and future cars to produce. they have to outmatch what they previously made.
