Brand new, a well equipped E30 was a very nice car. Leather, sport seats, OBC omg, heated seats, check panel that tells the user when things are going wrong, power sunroof, etc. It really is the same thing now, it's just that they can cram in a ton of tech for the same cost. Compared to other modern cars BMW still holds the performance and driving aspect way more then other comparable cars. I've driven a new C-class, and honestly the 2011 X5 was more sporty then the C-class was.
I understand what you're saying about the technology being "generally the same, but better" nowadays, but to say there are many "driver's cars" left today (outside the super car territory) would be a stretch. I dont know that the C Class has ever been considered or marketed as a driver's car? It may have been, I must have missed it though. I just dont think many people really give a shit anymore, its all about the badge, and how comfy the seats are :(

THAT'S what it is! Something about the front end was really bothering me, and I could not figure out what it was. It's making the front end look WAY too wide, disproportionate from the rest of the car. I like the styling of the front end a lot, but all I can see when I look at it is this:

Everything else looks great tho, I still like the F10 5-series the best of the new cars, tho.

The turbo 4 makes more power than the 3.0... and 258lb ft of torque at 1,250rpm, that sounds amazing.

I need somebody to wrap one around a tree as soon as they come out so I can get the motor to stuff in a 2002.

Whereas e30 owners (and many other BMW models) can look back and say their cars were "quick, nimble, performance focused, handled great, etc..", these kids will be saying, "My car had 4 cupholders, a heated steering wheel, 985 way adjustable seats, and MORE leg room than a comparable C-Class!"

Its sad really, how terribly far BMW has fallen in the past decade :(
you know, i have to disagree
                        i've owned various bmw's since 1978, 2002's, 528, e30, e36, e46 and my current DD an e92 328xi
they are all very good cars, they are all very different to drive
my e92 is way more capable than any other BMW i've owned, goes around corners faster, accelerates better and has better brakes. 22mpg around town (same as my 1972 2002tii). i wind up going faster than i think cause there's no drama anymore, no leaning going around corners, big fat tires with grip etc.
the target market went upscale as time went on and the cars became heavier, but they are still better performance cars than the generation before. my e92 328xi is faster/handles better than the e46 328ci i had.

Nice, but its hard for me to get excited about new cars these days. They just don't got the same soul as that old school rock and roll. haha

....Did i really just quote Bob Seger lol
