hella rare lemons I am sure. I almost exclusively build with Asus boards for myself and for others.

                Asus A8N-E
                AMD Athlon 64 4000+
                Asus GeForce 7800 GTX
                1GB Corsair XMS PC3200

                She hauls ass.

If I had the cash to blow on XMS, I'd probably have gone with that. But I do very little gaming, so it's not really needed. Besides, dual-channel PC3200 ValueSelect is probably plenty fast. And only $90.50 for 1 gig on Newegg.

I agree with you guys though, the GPU will definitely need an upgrade soon, may do it in the next month or so, as well as the HD's.

Yey for MSI!! I've always used their boards and have never had a problem. I have never had an Asus board though so I can't comment on their reliability.

I'd go with Abit, I Support tons of machines with Asus boards of many different models and they all have random quirks.

I don't recommend them to anybody anymore, let alone use them myself.

Question for those of you who said you had the 64bit processors. Do you acctually have any apps that run in 64bit? I looked into it and was under the impression that it would really only be of benifit if you were running linux or something server based. There aren't many windows apps that run in 64bit I don't think.

just the fact that they are newer = faster, whether we are actually getting the benefit of 64-bit at the moment or not. That's why I bought mine, I was in the market for a new processor, so 64-bit was a step in the right direction I think.

It is funny how some people have good experiences with one manufacturer & otyhers have the opposite. I have had nothing but trouble with Abit. I know people that swear by them.

As to 64bit processing I went with socket 939 because it was the future.

I am still runing socket A boards (ASUS A7V133) from years ago with 1.4ghz Athlons and they are fine as word processor/internet stations.

Just a little update. Andrew and I got the comp up and running Weds, and she's running like a champ. We had some trouble getting the drivers for the onboard LAN to work, but Andrew found the right one, and got it working. I have to say, running a gig of dual-channel DDR is pretty nice, and the P4 3.0 is pretty badass, too.

For the first 2 days, I left it running all day and night, and the rear exhaust fan was still blowing nice, cool air. I've got one large intake fan in the front pulling air over the HD's and onto the mobo, a side panel fan pulling air directly into the ENORMOUS fan and heatsink that came with the P4, and a single exhaust fan at the back. So far, they are doing a great job, although I'm going to swap them out for some quieter ones later.
