If you get a larger hard drive don't get a maxtor. I have had a few Maxtor hard drives and they have all failed on me. There is a reason that you can get a 120 gig Maxtor for much cheaper then a 120 gig Western Digital.Comment

i was skeptical too when i thought about buying the maxtor..and really there was very little price difference between the two when i bought my hd.Originally posted by h0lmesIf you get a larger hard drive don't get a maxtor. they make good hard drives, i bought the SATA version..maybe those are made differently..but either way mine has been very very reliable..IG: deniso_nsi Leave me feedback here

I agree with the consensus re more hdd space & that for slightly more you can do better video wise.
I have been running AMD since 2000 with no trouble, my secondary system is running a mobile Athlon XP 2500 which is runing oc'd at 2200 & 200mhz fsb (stock is about 1820 MHZ @ 166fsb) it is 109 degrees all day long in the Mexican heat with nary a problem. these processors run like an XP3200 and are going for 100.00 right now!

How do you overclock it? I wouldn't mind overclocking my Athlon 64 2800.
Is it a noticable difference?Comment

There might be some settings in your computers bios to do it already, but it varies with what kind of motherboard you have. Just search "overclocking +(motherboard model)".Originally posted by DigitalwaveHow do you overclock it? I wouldn't mind overclocking my Athlon 64 2800.

Its pretty simple actually..Originally posted by DigitalwaveHow do you overclock it? I wouldn't mind overclocking my Athlon 64 2800.
Is it a noticable difference?
On the boot screen you have to press DEL to enter Setup..
That will bring in the CMOS/BIOS screen (BLUE)
From there you go to Advanced Chipset Featues..im pretty sure the names are simillar for each motherboard/ BIOS utiltiy..i've got an EpoX
Then you go to the CPU Clock Ratio..basically you choose the multiplying factor here.. on my computer im running @ 133 FSB and my Clock ratio is 13.5 which yields 1795mhz or 1.8ghz
you can increase your FSB but make sure that your processor can handle increased FSB frequencies.
Personally from my experience i wouldn't recommend overclocking too much..can result in bad things happening..like your motherboard and processor toasting and maybe even RAM and video card. that shit will fuck up everything if you go overboard
i remember i overclocked my 1.73ghz athlon xp 2100 + which i have now, to about 1.95ghz..and well the computer shut itself down after about 10min's as a safety..hehe i love this motherboard.
Overclock at your own risk dudeIG: deniso_nsi Leave me feedback here

My 1820 ghz mobile xp 2500 has been running at 2200 for over a year. No problems.

TJ if you look in your manual you have full screen shots of all the bios screens. I suggest you start small with the multiplier (for example if it is at 11 go 11.5) if that is ok go to 12, then bump the fsb (clock speed a bit say from 166 to 170)
The reason I suggest the multiplier first is that it only affects the cpu whereas the fsb affects everything.
good luck
*it is possible to damage components by over clocking do so at the risk of having to buy new components*
I have never killed anything by ocing.
