True, that's what I'm saying. I don't know how they could refine it anymore.

Reality check. It weighs just under 1,100lbs. The 300hp version is sitting between 3-4lbs/hp. That is in the ballpark of many motorcycles.
      Im now E30less.

hence why i'd be perfectly happy with the 220hp version. it'd still be fast as fuck, and more reliable to boot.

Yes... responsible motoring where you get 25mpg and still whoop on a Porsche 911 turbo... fuck that even give McKlaren SLR a run for their money. I would get this car over a bike, or over any sports car. My brother in law just spent that much on an 850hp engine for his 1970 Chevelle SS... its hardly even streetable now.

The savings account has just been started... the second my wife isn't looking its ending up in my garage

I read that article too... to be honest... GM makes a fairly decent crate motor and has an excellent support program. If it is going to be the same motor going into the Solstice I think this ECOTEC would be a pretty decent engine. Might not have the same high reving nature of a japanese inline 4, or be as easily tunable, but I have started to get a lot of respect for GM engine production. Plus at the bottom of that article you can see the HP output. The HP output on the ECOTECs is way low... 205hp easily out of the supercharged one... which aint bad for a 2.0L. And because its an american engine, there has to be atleast a dozen manufactures you could get nice forged light weight engine internals from to increase the redline and reliablilty of the engine.

Id still rather have the Honda motor. I'll take better over cheaper anyday.

I agree, Honda would be better - just pointing out a benefit of a GM engine.

I also agree... American engines still have a long way to go... must be internal fighting with the pushrods and overhead cams people... both are viable... just build something amazing America... please. I don't know why american companies can't make an OHC engine that doesn't reliably rev to atleast 7 grand... or 6900... most of these cars only get to 6k and really don't like being up that high in the first place.

I agree... the honda 4-cylinder motors are a thing of beauty... but the american motors would be cheap as hell to work on... i don't see the reason why german engines are so damn expensive... they have a lot of finesse to them and all... but if jap companies ever got into making bigger engines (as opposed to just sharing the same 3.5L V6 across the board) you might start seeing japanese bigblocks in american muscle cars  Well... probably not. Or maybe if american motor companies would advance their pushrod engines some more.

Example... a highly tuned race engine like my brother-in-laws 540 cu in (8.8L) makes 850 hp... thats about 96hp/L... it has 200 miles on it and has to have a complete top end rebuild... granted its a race motor. BMW's new M5 V10 motor makes 101hp/L and is daily driveable reliable with probably 15000 mile services. The S54 makes 104hp/L... just as reliable.

Why can't america make an american muscle engine that does eat itself apart? Why have they not advanced their combustion technology (i.e. cylinder head, etc), pushrod or not, to make reliable high output engines per unit of displacement?

                        Screw Honda AND GM

The Ariel Atom needs a turbocharged Hayabusa engine.

i thought it came with a supercharged b16, hence 1.6 for the supercharged powerplant?

maybe they use a crv block or something, i dont know

either way -if they don't include that motor, i hope its still set up for a honda platform. be pretty easy to swap in a supercharged b series of your choice
