its disrespectful and shows little class. I had a professor that wouldn't let people wear baseball caps in class. You just have to respect that and get over it.'87 325ic, powered by S50.Comment

Your professors job, at the moment, is more about training you for that environment than filling you with knowledge or eliciting analytical thought from you.
When you hold your bach's degree it will signal to the workforce that you have successfully followed directions, the rules, listened to authority, showed up on time, and completed tasks adequately, not that you are intelligent.
Your GPA will be reflexive of your ability to do those things, it is not a measure of your intellectual capacity. In fact, you don't need to post your grade at the end of your class because I can predict it for you: you will earn an A or possibly a high B if he wants to employ a curve in an attempt to curb grade inflation unless you turn something in to him that is illegible.
It sucks, but that's the way it is.
This is why we have state schools and mandatory primary education. There are two views why this fact exists: some argue that it's due to those in power furthering the status quo by tracking the working class into working class jobs.
Some argue that's just the way it is in a credentialed society and helps prepare people for what they are best suited for: either following orders or giving them.
Both positions acknowledge the historical truth that our country needed to get kids off farms and into factories so we established the public school system and got people used to clocks.
At the end of the day, though, you're mainly right in the sense that none of that is relevant in the immediate situation. I simply find it interesting so thought I would share what a sociologist would say...you might end up in a soc class someday and now you have a nutshell of conflict theory and education tracking (your professor is a "gatekeeper" as were your high school advisors and teachers to some extent).
What some people seem to be trying to say to you, though, is that while none of that might matter what does is that the guy is preparing you for the work force. Maybe he doesn't see it that way. Maybe he's in it for getting you to think. But either way his behavior is training you for the reality that sometimes you just wind up in front of people who don't like you, your attire, your behavior, your <fill in the blank> and it behooves you to minimize your impact on that person. The sooner you realize this and the more often you implement it, the more likely you are to succeed in your endeavors.
As for your wonderment of the unfairness of it all:
There's a 50/50 chance he doesn't like the muslim student but he can't do a damn thing about it.
There's a greater than 50/50 chance that the girl with the thong is the brightest part of his day...a perk of being a state lackey if you will.
There's a slightly greater than 50/50 chance that he actually sees some potential in you and thinks you might actually graduate and go on to a professional environment and thought it in your best interest to get a dose of the corporate environment.
But there's also a chance he just plain didn't like it or that someone else complained.
The only thing I can tell you with any certainty is that in about twenty years when you're closer to some of our ages you'll look back at yourself or a kid on an internet forum, maybe even this one, and laugh and think to yourself, "damn I wish I had your problems" :DDas ist nicht nur nicht richtig, es ist nicht einmal falsch!Comment

Speaking of traveling, I might be working locally very soon and would have time to hang out. If you see a skinny guy on an MV Agusta in a black helmet give a shout, since they only make a handful of these things its probably me (I havent seen another one yet even knowing there should be 3-4 ITP).
Depending on how you look you might be able to go to midtown and make decent money polishing something.
HA HAH HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH HAH HA!!! They don't really policy cars in that part of town. You can get some poles polished for sure thoughComment
