Regardless if you were at work, at school or just walking down the street... a shirt like that is not something that a mature adult wears. It may say Fresh as Fuck, but when I see stuff like that it reads "I'm a tool".
Your reasoning was that you're an adult and you should be free to express yourself, and that is the picture you choose to paint of yourself for everyone? Plain and simple, you are still a kid and you will continue to be one until you grow up and learn how to properly behave like an adult contributor to society. You need respect people... especially a person of authority like your college professor.
Things like this should be common sense. I don't care how smart you think you are or anything like that, you are clearly not prepared for the real world... you just don't understand how to act. I really don't think you need to dress professionally to class, just dress in an appropriate manner (like a shirt that could potentially be deemed offensive should not be worn to class)... save it for a house party or something where all of your douchebag friends will think it is rad bro.
