    has anyone used rockauto?

i've looked on the website and they have really cheap parts, and it kind of worries me. Are they good or shit?

Never bought e30 parts from them, but i've purchased tons of stuff for other vehicles.

They're great for oem replacement parts. I've never seen any performance/race stuff on there, and I'm sure lots of it is Chinese, but they sell re manufactured and brand new parts. And like I said, in the oem category I think they're fine.

At least haven't had any problems/complaints yet!

Best deal so far is the Bosch alternator I bought for my girlfriend's 03 VW tdi new beetle. Dealership wanted $450 or so after core charge, otherwise they wanted something stupid like $550-$600 or so (they've ripped her off before too) and I found this Bosch unit for $120 as I recall and it's been fine. That's just my favorite personal story hahaha.

Yeah RockAuto is a great source, just watch out on shipping if you order multiple items, sometimes they have to be shipped from different locations and shipping racks up fast.
        Different strokes for different folks.

You're safe when dealing with them , have ~100 orders from there... nothing german tho' but I don't see why it would be any difference.

rockauto is awesome!!! i've been using them for about 3 years, and i have never had a problem.

one time they did send me the wrong part, but i called them, and they overnighted me the correct part and gave me a 25% discount on my next order.

i actually just ordered some parts from them yesterday. my sister took her 02 maxima to a shop to get the brakes checked, they told her the rear pads and rotors need to be replaced (i checked, they're right). they wanted $450 to do the job, i ordered the parts from rock auto, and it was $60 shipped for rear pads and rotors.

Bought a replacement wheel arch from them for $13. Actually, $21 shipped. It fit 100% perfect, better then any other aftermarket replacement sheet metal I've ever seen.

Also got a replacement axle for my X5 from them for $45. BMW part is over $500. Been working great for 2 years/30k miles.

They are slowly changing my opinion of aftermarket parts...

Rock Auto was good for me. Ordered my Half shafts from there. They came a week later.

Just like ANY parts supplier, you have to watch out for the brands you purchase. RockAuto sells Brembro etc, but when you have a member of the community like Blunt, why buy from starngers? He often gives free shipping on large orders, and extremely cheap shipping in general, like mentioned above, RockAuto often overcharges once you look at the shipped total.

RockAuto and AdvanceAuto use the same suppliers for their axles. They are fine for a DD, but I have seen 2 snapped (AA) axles just in the last few weeks, just from a hard launch.

I looked at Blunts water pump and its $40. RockAuto is $20. Advanced and Auto zone were way more expensive. Shipping one both sites was $8, that is why i was leaning more towards RockAuto

Eeeek! A $20 water pump? No thanks.

I'll stick with the stuff blunt sells. He knows what's good and what to avoid. I often just tell him "Hey, on this part I want something good, but cheap" or I might tell him "I only want the top of the line, name brand, OEM or better for this part" - and he knows just what brand to pick for me. Can't beat that with a stick.
